Duties:
A vacancy exists for a Health Technician (Audiology) in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service (ASPS) at the Dayton VA Medical Center.

The incumbent will provide the audiologists with assistance in meeting the clinical needs of Veterans served in the Audiology clinic. The Health Technician will interact with a high level of independence, making appropriate service delivery decisions and seeking clarification and/or assistance when appropriate. The Audiology and Speech Pathology Supervisor will be the direct Supervisor of the Health Technician (Audiology). The incumbent provides support in four functional areas: 1) hearing aid repairs; 2) audiological assessments and hearing aid selections; 3) hearing aid fittings; and 4) data, equipment, infection control and supply management.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:

Applicants must have One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-06) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience in precision instrument or medical equipment repair, maintenance or installation; worked as an audiologist's assistant or in a hearing aid store assisting customers/patients; worked as a medical laboratory technician using precision instruments to conduct tests; experience as a research assistant in audiological research projects; assisted audiology staff in patient care; performed hearing screening tests; participated in a variety of audiology testing. NOTE: Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation on your resume. Also provide work experience information such as hours per week, salary and starting/ending dates of employment.OR

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-07 level. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements at the GS-7 grade level.OR

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-07 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-07. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position
