**_QUALIFICATIONS:_**

A high school graduate is preferred, while proficiency in high school level mathematics, chemistry and /or physics is required. As minimum of two and one-half (2 ½)-years experience in a laboratory environment or working with water treatment equipment is required. Applicant must have, and be able to demonstrate; (1) a proficiency in basic laboratory procedures, and (2) the ability to operate basic laboratory equipment.

**_PRIMARY DUTIES:_** Performs routine and specialized chemical and physical tests and interprets the results in order to compile reports, monitor, control and meet recommendations for controlling the chemical balance of air and water pollution control equipment and the quality of water, steam and fuel used at the assigned power plant.

Performs duties such as:

1. Collecting samples and running control tests throughout the complete unit cycle such as alkalinity, phosphates, sulphite, sulfate, % carbonate, silica, chloride, ammonia, amines, total solids, pH, conductivity, ammonia concentration tests and % solid solution tests; interprets the results of tests to provide a basis for adjusting instruments, controls, chemical feeds, blowdowns and vents to maintain chemical equilibria and processes as required;

2. Running chlorination tests for control of biocides in river water and purification tests for control of well water supplies;

3. Preparing chemical mixes for all internal and external water treatment; backwashing filters and ion exchangers; adjusting degassifiers; checking and adjusting displacement of chemical pumps and inspecting/adjusting all components of automatic chemical feed or control systems;

4. Making up stock chemical solutions, calibrating, adjusting, standardizing and using standard laboratory instruments and assisting other personnel in conducting efficiency or performance tests and performing special tests as required;

5. Running coal and reagent fineness tests; collecting coal and reagent samples and running laboratory analyses, all in accordance with plant procedures;

6. Preparing weekly, monthly and annual analysis reports, plotting curves to observe quality trends and compiling records of cost; preparing special reports as required;

7. Keeping all laboratory equipment, water treatment equipment and work areas in the proper state of cleanliness and keeping logs and records according to a pre-assigned schedule; and

8. Assisting other power plant and Electric Production personnel in performing emissions and other forms of nonroutine testing.

In addition to the primary duties listed above, the employee may be called upon to perform other work as circumstances require.

Must know and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work performance.

**WORKING CONDITIONS:**

Generally in plant atmosphere of heat, dirt, noise and fumes. Some outdoor work required in various types of weather.
