Job Description

Lead/manage Outside Plant (OSP) engineering survey and design teams:

� In depth experience installing; designing; managing OSP systems in the commercial market; including Fiber To the Home FTTH deployments. Includes aerial and underground cable systems; splicing; testing; termination; cable placement; heavy construction/infrastructure; and aerial make ready tasks.

� Manage Google Fiber �Fiber To The Home� (FTTH) field surveys and designs�with aerial and underground cable plant deployments

� Manage FTTH commercial market designs to link multiple large design areas; each serving approximately thousands of homes; municipal and community facilities; multiple dwelling units (MDUs) and; in the future; large businesses.

� Manage the FTTH designs using Satellite imagery (or other aerials)

� Manage/develop final design package for each distribution area to include final Google Fiber-approved design drawings; splicing details; and bills of materials (BOMs); permits and easement documents.

� Deliver preliminary designs using Make Ready Engineering; OSP Ride Out Activities; including: preliminary design pole verification; parcel verification; design verification; utility verification; routing obstacles; aerial to underground percentage verification

� Strong experience with Make Ready Engineering tasks for power and comm spaces on poles; pole loading analysis (PLA) to include use of standard PLA software; and pole attachment permitting and application processing.

� Be knowledgeable and manage creation/use of base maps and clean-up of provided utility aerial and underground utilities data; parcel maps; DOT and any other maps from all sources; pole surveys from electronic means; addresses; DOT maps; utility ROW and attachment requirements; gather any local ordinances or requirements; complete preliminary strand mapping; all other preliminary data collection not specifically called out; define FTTH HUT boundaries and propose HUT locations

� Manage Red-line conversion; as-built validation; splicing one-line diagrams; updated splicing sheets; compilation of all updates into a GIS format; and handover of redlines; GIS file; and completed as-builts to Google fiber.

All effort associated with: preparing permit applications (UG permits; temporary use of ROW; cabinet placement; excavation for vault placement or pole change outs or any permit required by the legal body with jurisdiction); permit control and site acquisition negotiation activities necessary to procure access to private land owner/HOAs ROW/ROE. (Owner will pay pass-through permit fees).

Support new business initiatives--opportunity identification/assessments; proposals; pricing; labor/material model development to meet financial goals.

Provide field support; tools; design guides; equipment; and materials as specified by project and program financials. Provide training and technical data resources to the team--through GDIT; OEM; and trade organization sources.

Education

Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or equivalent; relevant experience.

Qualifications

Minimum of 8 -10 years' experience in commercial telecommunications engineering; underground/aerial designs; Make Ready engineering and construction; operations; maintenance/repair and/or installation.

Proficient in MS Word; Excel; Arc View/GIS; and Visio software. In-depth knowledge of Commercial Standards; National Electric Safety Code (NESC); RUS Requirements; State and Local Requirements (per Metro market assigned); Telcordia (formally Bellcore); RUS; BICSI; and military specifications applicable to the contract.
