Hi there!

Welcome back for another fun Papertrey Group Post!  Today, we're showcasing a new stamp set designed by Nichole Heady called Building Blocks.  It features rectangle design elements that can be used in conjunction with the wide variety of sentiment pieces included in the set, in an even wider variety of ways!  Nichole challenged us to choose an inspiration photo to use as a jumping off point for two projects today....one using the coordinating dies and one without.  Below, is the photo I chose to use for inspiration....

All of the new products you're getting peeks at this week will be available for purchase at Papertrey Ink beginning on February 15 at 10pm EST.

Isn't it just gorgeous??  There are so many little details about it that I love and that I chose to incorporate into my two cards.  Can you see some reflections of this inspiration photo, in my projects below?

Some things I chose to work into my projects......I loved the pop of turquoise at the bottom of the photo, the colors (obviously!  Haha!), the mix of mums, roses and dahlias, the color of the yellow tickets that is just a bit lighter tone than the yellow mums, and the distressed look of the flower containers.

Firstly, I die cut and stamped my flowers.  Side note: Why don't I mix flowers from different stamp sets more often?!!  It was so fun!

I stamped the mum (Mum's the Word stamp set) using summer sunrise ink.  The dahlia (Delightful Dahlia Additions) was stamped with berry sorbet, pure poppy and autumn rose inks.  The roses (The Sweet Life) were stamped with sweet blush, berry sorbet and pure poppy inks.  Of course, all those flowers needed leaves and I had just the set!  *wink!*  I die cut several different leaves with the new Leave It Be dies and stamped them each in new leaf ink, with their coordinating Leave It Be stamps.  Then, in cases where I added veining, I stamped those also in new leaf ink.

Next, I needed something to sort of ground the flowers so that they weren't just floating in mid-air, so I used a strip of kraft card stock.  And to mirror that distressed look in the photo, I inked it up with vintage touch tea dye ink in Chai.  A bit of glitter was added to the center of each flower (to reiterate the sentiment!), and a few Making Memories enamel dots finished off the focal point.

As for the sentiment, how adorable is this one?  Hence, the glitter!  Haha!  It, and the rectangles under it, are all from Building Blocks.  I stamped the rectangles in harvest gold and hawaiian shores inks and topped them with smokey shadow sentiment pieces.

Here, I used Building Blocks to create a completely different look!  This time, the kraft card base was inked with vintage touch tea dye ink, to repeat that slightly distressed look from the inspiration photo.

I die cut and stamped a cake from Foodie Fun and topped it with a couple more of those Making Memories enamel dots.

The Building Blocks dies were used to cut out three rectangles from hawaiian shores card stock and then I stamped them with Building Blocks stamps using hawaiian shores ink.  Lastly, I topped each one with Building Blocks sentiments.

Just below the building blocks, I added a "happy birthday" sentiment from the new Keep It Simple: Birthday stamp set, using summer sunrise ink and then added a strip of summer sunrise card stock that was die cut with the heart border die.  Lastly, a thin strip of dark chocolate card stock was added and the whole thing was layered on a piece of berry sorbet bitty dot paper.

Here, I've got another Leave It Be card for you.......you know I just HAD to pair those leaves with my Delightful Dahlia Additions again!!

The leaves on the rustic cream layer were stamped with ripe avocado ink (both the leaves and their veins).  The flowers were die cut with the Delightful Dahlia dies from sweet blush card stock, and were stamped with sweet blush, hibiscus burst and berry sorbet inks.  They were topped with enamel dots (Making Memories).

As for that pretty sentiment, I used a One Liners: Happy die and added the "birthday" from my new Birthday Classics: February stamp set!  A perfect pairing!

All righty, dear readers, one more for you before I go.  If you've been hanging around here for very long, then you know that I have 4 siblings including a sister born on Valentine's Day and a sister born on New Year's Day.  For as long as Diann (the Valentine baby) has been alive, she's loved hearts and purple and special birthday cards that incorporate both Valentine's Day and her birthday.  My whole family used to scour Hallmark stores looking for those one or two ellusive "Valentine Birthday" cards that they carried each year.  It was always a hunt!  Which is why I'm THRILLED that with my new Birthday Classics stamp set series, I can now make custom birthday cards for lots of holiday birthdays, including Diann's Valentine birthday!

So it is with great joy, that I present to you, my little sister (only by 20 months -- heehee!) Diann's birthday card....

I try to incorporate purple into her card every year and lots of times, purple is the main focus.  But this year, I wanted it to be over-the-top Valentine-y (read: pink & red!) with a touch of purple.  So that's what I did.  ;)

I started with a rustic cream card base and used the Cover Plate: Hearts die to cut some pure poppy card stock.  I trimmed off one row of the hearts, to make it a bit less wide and layered it on the card front, over a piece of raspberry fizz bitty dot paper.  Next, I added a kraft strip that was stamped with three sentiment pieces from Birthday Classics: February, using plum pudding ink.

Lastly, I pulled out the With All My Heart stamp set and Limitless Layers: Heart dies to create this fun focal point.  The scalloped layer is plum pudding card stock and the rustic cream layer was stamped with pure poppy, raspberry fizz, plum pudding and kraft inks.  I love the addition of the sweet little "love you" from With All My Heart.  Such a lovely Valentine image....it makes me happy.  Hopefully, this year's birthday card will make my sister happy too.  :)

Ok, I'm off for now.....there's still much to be done!  But before I go, we can't forget about Papertrey Ink's latest challenge over at Nichole Heady's blog!  There are big prizes to be had, so you should totally play along!!

I have the opportunity to provide you with your fifth "building block" for the card you can create today for the challenge.  Each Design Team member has basic "building block" options for card making to share with you.  The intent is for you to visit each team member's blog and collect all of the building blocks necessary to create a beautiful card.

Each team member, including myself, has six numbered selections for a specific category.  Roll a die or use a random number generator to select which item number you will need to work with from their list.  If you do not have the supplies for the item you end up with, feel free to roll again.  Collect nine item selections total, one from each team member, and get to work creating your masterpiece!
