It is a culmination of years of experimentation and development that has led Pernille Snedker Hansen to produce her current works. Inspired by Suminagashi, an ancient Japanese craft, she has re-purposed the traditional craft of marbling. Working directly to explore the fluid nature of these techniques she manages to enhance materials and create unique forms.
The process is meticulous, controlled and random at the same time. It is created one drop at the time and resembling a tree growth rings, she lets the patterns occur naturally.
It is a process of repetition, and letting go of predefined structures to create formations of its own right.
Her works have been exhibited as part of the exhibition MINDCRAFT13 at Salone Del Mobile with her work “Refraction”, she has received several nominations for Danish Biennale for Crafts and Design and she was awarded with a Wallpaper* Design Award in 2012 for her “Marbelous Floors”.
Just now she she is as part of RE F O R M 2014, a new exhibition platform presented and edited by FRAMA, Elle Decoration DK & Etage Projects for the new generation of furniture designers, woodworkers, architects and artists.
For the RE F O R M 2014 exhibition, Pernille Snedker Hansen has created the work “Walking Down The River”, a wood-floor rug, she describes it as the meeting between the parquet floors and a woven rug drawing upon inspiration from the movements of a river.
The exhibition is running at FRAMA’s Copenhagen showroom until June 26.
