The business leaders of today face extraordinary complexity, rapid change and increasing diversity in their markets and workforces.

When customers and employees feel confused, frustrated or misunderstood, they become disengaged and they choose the competition. This issue multiplies in a multicultural environment.

According to Bain & Company, the global management consultancy, 87% of CEOs consider the combination of culture, engagement and leadership as top priority. Unfortunately they know they are not prepared and solutions created before globalisation cannot provide optimum results.

The challenges continue to multiply.

Diversity. Global engagement. New markets. Multicultural teams. Almost everywhere we look we are confronted with new cross-cultural encounters and situations – from our workplaces to our customers, from clients to suppliers, from on-site collaboration to virtual networks.

The tide of mass migration and uncontrolled immigration has simply added to the complexity of the challenge.

On the one hand, globalisation and free trade have brought brought enormous economic benefits. On the other hand, the wave of globalisation (and immigration) is blamed for the alienation and impoverishment of many communities outside the elitist cities and centres of power and privilege in Western countries like the United States and United Kingdom.

The US elections and UK Brexit

The new governments of these countries, and perhaps soon other countries in Europe, have to reach out to the neglected cities and communities of their electorate, relate to their concerns and provide them with support. These communities include northern England, Scotland and Wales, just as they do Wisconsin and Ohio and many other states in America.

One third of Hispanic Americans and one third of Asian Americans voted for President Trump. Within a generation, the majority of the US population will be non-white. The simplistic picture of multiculturalism (liberal and tolerant versus authoritarian and racist) may no longer be 100% true.

So how do you manage this diversity? How do you leverage your understanding of many different backgrounds and personality types into competitive advantage? How do you develop effective flexible leadership in the workplace and across borders?

The answer is by developing your Cultural Intelligence!

Understanding how cultural backgrounds AND personality types influence behaviour, thinking and expectations is the strategic advantage of high-performing companies and successful managers. That is Cultural Intelligence, the science of measuring and leveraging personal and cultural differences.

That is why we have developed a unique interactive one-day workshop that will help you achieve just that: The Bamboo Leader – The missing link between knowing and doing in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
