A programme of symphonic classics, opera, musicals, jazz and pop, a beautifully prepared picnic and lovely Nerberburg wines all come together on November 29 to make an evening to remember.

The sunset concert is the perfect way to set the tone for a splendid summer. On the bill are the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and young performers from Paul Roos Gymnasium, Rhenish Girls’ High School and Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof, as well as UCT opera students Siyabulela Ntlale, a baritone who recently won second place at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Germany, Noluvuyiso Mpofu, a soprano who recently performed with UK opera superstar Bryn Terfel, Zoë Modiga, a jazz vocalist, and Matthew Ehrenreich, a jazz saxophonist.

The rest of the line-up includes singer-songwriter Brandon October, the talented Filipa, a young pop singer who recently won Ryan Seacrest’s international Youtube competition and Limited Edition, a drumming group from Mannenberg.

The concert will be conducted by Brandon Phillips, artistic director and conductor of the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, while the MC for the evening will be will be popular TV presenter and singer, Lynelle Kenned.

All concert proceeds will be donated to nominated youth music development programmes in the Western Cape.

The picnic concert starts at 6 pm, but gates will open at 4 pm to allow enough time for guests to find their perfect picnic spots on the lovely lawns surrounding Nederburg’s historic manor house. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

Tickets cost R100 for adults, while entry for children under 12 years is free.

A wide selection of Nederburg’s award-winning wines will be available for purchase, as will soft drinks and mineral waters.

Scrumptious picnic baskets, prepared by Nederburg’s The Red Table restaurant, can be ordered in advance and collected before the performance.These include items such as freshly-baked bread, artisanal cheeses, preserves, smoked salmon trout, meatballs, tartlets, salads, something sweet as well as plates, cutlery and glassware, a picnic blanket and an ice bucket packaged in a beautiful picnic basket that comes with a picnic blanket. The baskets are on offer for R195 per person. These don’t include any wine or other drinks.

Guests may bring their own food items, but please note that no alcoholic beverages may be brought onto the premises. Guests, especially those who  self-cater, are encouraged to bring their own cutlery, crockery, glassware, chairs, tables, blankets and cushions.
