Marvel’s Jessica Jones – Season 1 – Key Art

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is due to hit Netflix on 20th November and we’re counting down the days until it does!

We’ve got some dedicated pages on the show but we won’t be stopping there — oh no! Stick around with us in these last few exciting days leading up to the premiere for all the skinny on the series, the writers, the cast and the production team — everyone and everything that makes Marvel’s Jessica Jones tick.

Today is Day 6 of our countdown, and for the remaining days — barring a few surprises here and there! — we’ll be featuring the cast of the show. From Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones to David Tennant as Kilgrave to Eka Darville as Malcolm Drake, we’ll be bringing you a glimpse into the professional careers of these phenomenal actors.

Jessica’s New York wouldn’t be the same without the actors that fill these shoes. So let’s get to know a little bit more about the people who ‘people’ Marvel’s Jessica Jones.

Carrie-Anne Moss — “Jeryn Hogarth”

Carrie-Anne Moss plays attorney Jeryn Hogarth in Jessica Jones. Marvel initially introduced her character as “a no-nonsense woman who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica…if Jessica doesn’t completely alienate her first.”

Carrie-Anne’s comparable character (also named Jeryn Hogarth) in the Marvel Universe was a male businessman and lawyer working for Wendell Rand, Danny “Iron Fist” Rand’s father.

“Throughout her career, Carrie-Anne has embodied a wide range of characters in a compelling and relatable way and I have no doubt she will bring that talent to Jessica Jones,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg.

“Carrie-Anne has proven her ability to play complex characters with deep and layered inner lives,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “Her interaction with Jessica Jones will be one of the many highlights of the series.”

Carrie-Anne Moss is an Canadian-born actress most famous for her role as Trinity in The Matrix series of films.  Moss lived in Vancouver as a child before moving to Spain to pursue modeling. It was there that she landed her first acting role, in 1991’s Dark Justice.  She moved to Los Angeles and attended to American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena while working on the show.

She took bit parts in films and in television throughout the ’90s – appearing on Silk Stalkings, Baywatch and Forever Knight amongst others – until she scored her breakout role as Trinity in The Matrix. She reprised the role for both sequels, The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

Many of Hollywood’s most prominent producers have cast Carrie-Anne in films including Red Planet in which she starred with Val Kilmer for producers Warner Bros. and Mark Canton, Miramax’s Oscar nominated Chocolat co-starring opposite Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp and Dame Judy Dench for director Lasse Hallstrom and producer David Brown, Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed independent thriller Memento with Guy Pearce and Suspect Zero starring alongside Aaron Eckhart and Sir Ben Kingsley in the Cruise/Wagner produced film from director Eliase Merhige. Carrie-Anne appeared opposite Shia LaBeouf in the box-office hit Disturbia, opposite Ryan Reynolds and Willem Defoe in Fireflies in the Garden and in the powerful Gregor Jordan directed feature Unthinkable with Samuel L. Jackson.

Carrie-Anne continued to work on a unique array of projects including the independent feature films The Chumscrubber with Ralph Fiennes, Rita Wilson and Glenn Close, Mini’s First Time opposite Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson and Nikki Reed, touching drama Snow Cake with Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman, and the unique zombie comedy Fido opposite Billy Connelly and Dylan Baker. Carrie-Anne reprised her role in the popular video game franchise Mass Effect for its 3rd offering, appeared in indie feature films The Boy Who Smells Like Fish, Silent Hill & Knife Fight and then, while Paul WS Anderson’s epic 3D feature Pompeii hit theatres, record weekly television audiences were tuning in for the CBS sprawling period drama series Vegas.

Carrie-Anne has received numerous accolades for her work including MTV, SAG and Teen Choice Award nominations. She won a Gemini Award for Best Supporting Female in a Guest Starring Role for an appearance on “Due South.” For her work in Memento Carrie-Anne received an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female. She was recognized with a Vancouver Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Canadian Film for Fido and she won a Genie Award for ‘Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role’ for her performance in Snow Cake.

She returned to television in the mid-2000s and co-starred in three pilots (Pretty/Handsome, Suspect, and Normal) that were not picked up before joining the cast of Chuck in 2011.

Late last year independent feature film The Elephant Song screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival while Carrie-Anne concurrently completed voice work on the animated feature film adaptation of enormously popular Chinese on-line video game “Dragon Nest” and principal photography on Bernard Rose’s Frankenstein adaptation.

Carrie-Anne is currently shooting the exciting new Netflix series Marvel’s Jessica Jones and indie feature film Brain On Fire.
