The annual High School Invitational Exhibition is currently on display at Quad City Arts through May 8th, and this year, as in years past, Davenport Community Schools has much to celebrate! Many DCS student and teacher artworks were selected for the exhibition, and a few select Davenport students were selected for honors and awards. Continue reading below to see what each school reported in after the awards ceremony…

CENTRAL: Over 20 Central High students have work on display, and several students received awards for their work! Kennedy Hill: 2nd Place- Scholarship; Rachel Lyle: 3rd Place- Scholarship; Kennedy Hill: Most Creative Concept; Kennedy Hill: Cutting Edge Award; Nash Foderberg: Deborah Doehler Studio Award; Taylor Chandler: Left Bank Art League Scholarship; Taylor Chandler:  “1000 Words” Award; and Rachel Spring: QC Arts Staff Award.

CREATIVE ARTS ACADEMY: From the Visual Arts division, senior Joseph Nguyen received the Quad City Arts Aquatic Award. From the Communication & Media Arts division,  senior Stephen Martinez received the Best in Film Award and Lily Castel received the Rock Island Art Guild Award. Creative Arts Academy students Nathan Cunningham, Skyrah Spice, Lily Castel, Will McKay and Stephen Martinez (from the Communication & Media Arts division)as well as Joseph Nguyen and Mayli Grady (from the Visual Arts division) all have work on display.

NORTH: Quad City Arts added a new award this year at the Annual – the “Best of Show” honor – and North High senior Austin Robertson won that top honor with his pen drawing! Austin received a $900 award and a huge portfolio. Since Austin also won Best of Show at the Festival of Trees, his artwork is displayed in the front window at Quad City Arts for the entire month. In addition, senior Deven Skaff received 4th place with a cash award and a portfolio, and freshman Amber Neece received a Juror’s Choice Award. North students Donna Knox, Alexis Mace, Kristine Tran, Alli Jones, Cassidy Barker, Hunter Bell, Kirstin Felske, Josie Tipsworth, Akeim Hill, Isabelle Bishoff, Meranda Castaneda, and Mikayla Determan also have work on display in the gallery. In addition to North’s student success, teacher Dave Schaeffer won first place in the teacher’s division for his 3D portrait.

WEST: The following students were selected to have work displayed at the Invitational: HuyGia (Henry) Nguyen, Victoria Ornelas Steeb, Morgan Hammes, Nichole Fadiga, Tyler Jakubowski, Alex Marlier Bloomer, Samed Emrovic, Abigail Sade, Desiree Foster, Katelyn Cox, Kaylee Gerdts, Gary Landstrom, Kylie Barraclough, Mayli Grady, Darius Klinkner, Aryn Kress, Brianna Hillyer, Martin Alfaro, Shelby Mattson, Eduardo Solis Arrazola, Jonah Hill, Courtni Carstens, and Katie Melville.
