The Davenport Schools Foundation recently awarded $51,000 in scholarships to 36 graduating seniors from Central, North, West and Kimberly Center high schools. In addition, almost $13,000 was given to previous winners who won multi-year awards such as the Tate and Grady scholarships. DSF Scholarship Committee co-chairs Manny Fritz and Sherry Freese led a team of volunteers who reviewed hundreds of applications for the scholarships ranging in amount from $12,000 to $300.
2014 Davenport Schools Foundation scholarship winners are:
Olivia Terronez of West High won the Kathryn Bell Tate Scholarship ($12,000 over four years). She also won a $750 Caryl Haring Memorial Scholarship. Olivia will attend the University of Northern Iowa in the fall.
Jacob Behrendt of Central High won the Joan Kohlberg-Lowen Scholarship ($4,000). He also won a Jerry Jurgens Scholarship worth $1,650 and a Hall of Honor Keith Jurgens Scholarship worth $1,500. Jacob will enroll at the University of Iowa in the fall.
Sedat Romilus of Central High won a Helen G. Pohling Scholarship ($1,200). In addition, she won a CHS Hall of Honor Scholarship – the Jim Hester Memorial Award – worth $1,500. She will enter Scott Community College this fall.
Ariel Schlue of North High also won a Helen G. Pohling Scholarship ($1,200). She plans to study at the University of Wisconsin at Platteville.
Jiselle Henderkott of West High won a Helen G. Pohling Scholarship ($1,200) along with a Johnson School Scholarship worth $245. She will study at Iowa State University in the fall.
Elise Castro of Central won the Davenport Schools Foundation Scholarship ($1,000). She will study at Indiana University.
Madison Walker from West won the Class of 1959 Scholarship worth $1,000. Madison will enroll at Iowa State University.
Caroline Emory from North won the Lisa Arbisser Scholarship ($500). In addition, she won one of the new North High Music Scholarships worth $1,000. She plans to enter the University of Iowa in the fall.
Jessica Bennett of West won the Jane Grady Scholarship ($5,000 over four years). She will be a student at Iowa State University this fall.
Hannah Herington of North won the Marie Linke Powell Scholarship worth $1,000. She also won a Caryl Haring Scholarship worth $750 and a DSF Future Educator Scholarship for $500. She will attend the University of Northern Iowa.
Naomi Elias of Central won a Jerry Jurgens Scholarship worth $1,650. She is going to Scott Community College this fall.
Nicholas Keppy of West High was awarded the George E. Weis Memorial Scholarship ($250). In addition, he won a Betty Nelson Career Tech Scholarship worth $300 and the Brian Keppy Memorial Scholarship worth $1,500. He is going to study welding at Scott Community College in the fall.
Matthew Kronfeld of West also won the $300 Betty Nelson Career Tech Scholarship and the George Weis Memorial worth $250. He will study welding at Scott Community College.
Ty Hoeksema of Central won a CHS Hall of Honor Meyer Memorial Scholarship worth $1,500. He will be a student at Wheaton College in the fall.
Gabrielle Hoeksema is the winner of the second Meyer Memorial Scholarship. She plans to study at the University of Iowa.
Madison West of Central won a CHS Hall of Honor Scholarship for $1,500. She will enroll at Florida College.
Jesse Maddox of Central won a CHS Hall of Honor Scholarship for $1,500. He will enroll at Drake University this fall. Jesse also won a MidWestOne “You’re the One” Scholarship worth $500.
Mason Tope of Central won the first-ever CHS Hall of Honor’s Kneipp Family Scholarship worth $1,500. He plans to study at Loras College.
Roy Schindler of Central won a CHS Hall of Honor’s Orson Bauder Memorial Scholarship for $1,500. He will study at Norwich University.
Kadijah Pettie of Central won a Hanae Fujiwara Wiese Memorial Scholarship for music ($4,000). Kadijah is enrolling at the University of Chicago in the fall.
Mitchell Diamond of Central also won a Fujiwara-Wiese Scholarship for $4,000. He will study at the University of Northern Iowa.
Dominick Pena of Central won the $1,000 Buttleman-Arbisser Journalism Scholarship. He plans to study at the University of Iowa.
David Solbrig of West won a Johnson School Scholarship worth $245. He will study at the University of Iowa in the fall.
Haley Burney of West also won a Johnson School Scholarship. She will enroll at Iowa State University.
Moesha Poole of West won a DSF Future Educator Scholarship ($500). She will enroll at the University of Northern Iowa.
Anna Haber of Central won a DSF Future Educator Scholarship for $500. She will attend St. Ambrose University in the fall.
Leah Hermann of West won a $1,500 Mary Means Memorial Scholarship. Leah will study at Moody Bible College.
Jacob Cook of Kimberly Center won a Betty Nelson Career Technical Scholarship worth $600. He is going to study at Scott Community College.
Meghan Pfannenstiel of Central also won a Nelson Scholarship for $600. She is going to study at Johnson & Wales culinary school.
Joey Diaz of North won another Nelson Scholarship for $600. He plans to study at Wyotech in Laramie, Wyoming.
A.J. Peterson of West is the winner of the $300 Brad Peck Memorial Scholarship. He will attend St. Ambrose University in the fall.
Katelyn O’Hare-Hayes of Central won a $500 MidWestOne “You’re the One” Scholarship to study business. Katelyn will study at Drake University.
Dawn Vickers of West won a West High Music Scholarship worth $1,000. She will study at the University of Northern Iowa.
David McVay won the other $1,000 West High Music Scholarship. He will study at Luther College.
Jared DeFauw won a North High Music Scholarship worth $1,000. Jared will go to the University of Iowa in the fall.
Molly Schebler of Central won the new Jack King Music Scholarship for $1,500. She plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa.
