Brunton boatyard Kochi gives an opportunity to live the glorious past of Fort Kochi and colonial

experience. As soon as I stepped into property, I was traversed into different era. The ‘Punkha’

in reception which is more like a courtyard; cooled off the heated head. A green garden in the

middle of property which is covered with flowers was eye soothing and the antique furniture

was telling the tales of how Brunton boatyard was an actual boatyard. As I walked through the

lobby watching over the paintings, it made me realized so much has happened in the area

around.  Vasco  D’Gama found the fabled sea route to the Indies, establishing the spice route

and began the story of glorious past of India. If the story itself wasn’t appealing enough; the

location of Brunton boatyard definitely is, situated on the heart of Fort Kochi.  I spent mornings

exploring the markets and evenings watching the sun setting behind the Chinese fishing net. It is

the gateway for many interesting places around, Jews street is one of my favorite.

For me the best part of stay was queen like room, the bed was 4 feet high, the Portuguese

furniture was so carefully crafted;   I was so disconnected to the outer world. The details in

everything actually kept me mesmerized throughout my stay. I absolutely loved the small

history brochure and the map of Kochi fort placed along with 9 varieties of tea and filter coffee.

The view from swimming pool was spectacular as well, watching the ships passing by at Cochin

harbor as I swam.

Breakfast table by the sea is all I needed in the mornings and I couldn’t stop myself having the

unlimited number of freshly baked cakes by the chef. The food quality is supreme in Brunton

boatyard and each dish is very carefully made by the chef. I had a great time interacting with

him to know his secret ingredients.  The most recommended ones are home Mutton curry and

Moilee Fish. The ‘history restaurant’ which is one among the many restaurants, is a journey in

itself where each dish reflects a particular community from Kerala. The evenings are even more

beautiful here.  It is a heavenly experience to have a cocktail on the deck seeing the sun setting

behind the Arabian Sea. This is the place about which I can keep writing, but the words cannot

do the justice to real experience.
