Charon was born in the depths of Izalith as a daughter to her moher who contained a Lord Soul. However, unlike the others, she believed in her own ways of pyromancy and was determined to go on her own pilgrimage developing new forms of it, even modifying it to meld into her weapons such as her Chaos Demon Scythe. This lead her to the outskirts of Lordran, wandering in search for this new start in life, unaware that she branded the sign of an undead. The Cursed sign...the Dark Sign. By the time she reached an unknown ruins, it was there she made encountered a fellow pyromancer who sought out to share his knowledge of the flame and give it freedom than control. His philosophy would later on be remembered...but eventually his history will long be forgotten. Taking him as her own student, Charon taught him the arts of pyromancy her mother taught her and fellow sister who she held feelings for, Quelana. Eventually, Charon grew homesick, and decided to give her student one last lesson in pyromancy before going off to visit her sisters. By the time she reached there...she faced the tragedy of her dear mother and sisters when news came to her that her mother attempted to create a flame that would outlast the first Flame, but when things went wrong, it ate her and destroyed Izalith, turning it nothing more but into ruins.

By the time she found out of the fate of her sisters, Charon befallen into depression, blaming herself for not being there to convince her mother of the foolish idea of creating a Flame of her own. Charon knew she was no god, but it did not diminish her sorrow knowing all of her sisters and possibly Quelana were perhaps wiped away or turned into monsters. In desperation to find them, she only came across two of her sisters, two of which she would never imagine seeing still alive, but deformed into monsters, feeding upon humanity in order to survive. She was lucky enough to be recognized as one of them, sadly though, it did not help the fact that Quelaag, the eldest, demanded she leave the vicinity for her own sake and for the Fair Lady, Quelaan.

Leaving the vinicity through Blighttown, Charon took shelter at the Firelink Shrine, it is when you find her under the dead tree closer to the steps that leads to the shortcut into Undead Burg.

''"You...it is strange...but I sense great power in you slowly growing. Perhaps it is your soul, you must be some knight, cleric, nay, it matters not. I am Charon of Izalith, one of the very few witches in this accursed place. I came to this place to think...to slowly collect my thoughts and it is strange, for ever since I returned to my home, I can't remember why I left it to begin with. Now I regret that decision, for you see...my dear sisters are suffering and I am unable to stop their suffering..."''

+

+

+

+

By this time, Charon is unaware of the effects of the Cursed sign, the sign of hollowing that is taking its toll on her. She can only remember the fate of her sisters and not of her reasons to leaving. When you leave, she eventually is founded in the entrance to Blighttown praying to a body that was once a firekeeper. Her hollowing effectively is mental, but not physical for she struggles to remember your presence let alone mission to go to the Great Swamp below.

''"Hmm, you...have we met? You don't happen to be heading down there now hmm? Be wary though, my sisters...one of them...they are not so keen to travellers and let alone, if you do walk into their territory, she will not hesitate to strike you down. I say this with great warning, both for her and your sake. I am heading to New Londo Ruins, maybe I could be of some help...maybe I can find a cure to this madness and save my sisters...maybe even my mother. Oh, Quelana...where are you?"''

+

+

+

+

As you progress throughout the game, Charon visits New Londo Ruins in search for a cure, only to be lured into the dark by the whispering echoes of a Primordial Serpent who eventually tells her the truth...the truth to save her sisters. Charon is convinced, her mind being manipulated by the darkest cores of evil, and soon...she becomes what she would fear the most if she knew the truth about the Cursed sign and the price her mother suffered when she decided to play God. She became a Darkwraith. A darkwraith determined to hunt down the Chosen Undead.

+

+

Learning about the Kiln of the First Flame where Gwyn resides in as a hollow, Charon believes that in order to save her dear sisters, she would have to kill the Chosen Undead and take his place in rekindling the flame or becoming a dark lord.

''"In order to save those I love, I must hunt down the dark one...the dark soul..."''

+

+

Unaware of Quelaag's death, her brother's death, and most of her family that have been put to death by the Chosen Undead, Charon stalks the warrior, attempting to take his soul, unaware that it is not just her volition that drives her to harm someone that shown her kindness, it was her hunger for humanity. The curse that she beared was controlling her every action, slowly changing her physical features into a mindless husk. However, she kept her mission close to her, not focusing on anything else, but seeking to kill the Chosen Undead.

+

+

+

+

It was then where you will find her at the end of the steps, hollowed, wielding nothing more than her scythe, gazing at you with only one intention in mind. One intention that she held as it were own humanity. Her fate at your hands, it ends at the edge of your blade. Charon's mission was to see her sisters be free of the vile forms they were forced to take, but she had no family left anymore to call her own.

+

+

+

+

When you slay her, an item will be given, and depending if Quelana still resides in the Great Swamp, it is a letter made from Charon herself during her pilgrimage that it be returned to her if her fate had fell by someone's blade. To pass on her final words to the last soul she cherished the most.

''"Farewell my sisters...my mother...Quelana...I...never had the chance to...see you again..."''

== Trivia ==

+

+

=== *Charon is based after the Greek Mythology Charon who collects tokens of the dead and takes them to Hades. ===

+

+

=== *A Letter To My Mother is a small letter written by Charon as a final testament to her adventure through Lordron, she had made this in hopes that if she was to die, her foe would be kind enough to return this letter to Quelana of Izalith. This represents that Charon still had feelings for her mother and sisters and that it is directed towards Izalith and the life she had gave them in return for their loyalty and happiness.* ===

+

+

=== *Charon has a strong disdain towards the Swamp, however, sees all pyromancers (if the Chosen Undead is one) as little siblings.* ===
