The Weinstein Company has announced that production is set to begin on Sunday in London on their upcoming drama “The Current War”.

Set in the late 1880s, the story deals with the rivalry between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse who races to create a marketable and sustainable electricity system.

Edison championed the use of a direct current for electric power distribution over an alternating current, which was backed by Westinghouse Electric and a host of European companies.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Thomas Edison, Michael Shannon is George Westinghouse and Nicholas Hoult is Nikola Tesla. Also onboard are Katherine Waterston, Tom Holland, Matthew Macfadyen and Tuppence Middleton.

Michael Mitnick penned the script while Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”) will produce.
