Blackhat
Legendary's panel at Comic Con yesterday confirmed that Michael Mann's new thriller previously titled "Cyber" has scored a new name - "Blackhat". The Chris Hemsworth-led film is scheduled for a mid-January release but will score a limited theatrical run in late December to potentially qualify for awards consideration.
Footage was screened showcasing a globe-hopping thriller, but in the same grainy style of Mann's films like "Collateral" and "Miami Vice". Hemsworth plays a convict who is released to team up with a group of Americans and Chinese in a hunt for a high-level cybercrime network operating around the world. The action runs from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta.
The Hateful Eight
Quentin Tarantino popped up at the San Diego Comic Con this year to talk about his graphic novel "Django Meets Zorro". While there though, he dealt with the question everyone wants to know - will he go forward with his western "The Hateful Eight" as his next feature? "Yeah.... We're going to be doing The Hateful Eight" the filmmaker confirmed. [Source: Deadline]
Family Guy: The Movie
The Comic-Con presentation for the new season of "Family Guy" revealed a number of storylines for its upcoming season, from Peter trying to kick Liam Neeson's ass to Stewie being impregnated with Brian's baby. There's also loose plans for a "Star Trek" parody on the way, and a five minute clip from the crossover episode with "The Simpsons" can be seen at EW.
On the flip side, director and producer Peter Shin confirmed that the proposed feature film based on the series is currently on hold while creator Seth MacFarlane directs "Ted 2". Shin says: "We started some work on one a while ago, but it's been put on hold. It might move forward in the future.”
Sons of Anarchy
Appearing for the Comic Con panel for the show's upcoming final season this Fall, "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter says that serious conversations are underway about a possible prequel to the show.
If it does go ahead he says he doesn't know if it will be a full on-series or a mini-series, but it would likely focus on the 'First 9' who founded SAMCRO. Meanwhile, he did confirm that there will be no spin-offs continuing the story: "There'll be no spinoffs. I think spinoffs work well on procedural dramas, which this clearly is not."
