Production has begun in southwest France on Lasse Hallström's adaptation of Richard C. Morais' best-selling novel "The Hundred-Foot Journey" at DreamWorks Studios and Participant Media.
The culinary drama follows the rivalry between a three-Michelin-star restaurant in France, and the Indian restaurant that resides just a hundred feet away.
The French restaurant is run by eccentric chef Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), who reluctantly forms a mentoring bond with a young Indian boy (Manish Dayal) whose family owns the rival restaurant.
Steve Knight ("Eastern Promises") penned the script, while Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake are producing. An August 8th 2014 release is planned.
