Following some promo art which leaked online and confirmed that the character of Saw Gerrera will appear in Disney XD’s animated “Star Wars Rebels” series, a new featurette is out discussing the character’s role in the show.
Originally appearing on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” an older version of the character was made flesh in this month’s spin-off film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” with Forest Whitaker taking on the role.
Whitaker reprises the role for ‘Rebels’ which is set years before the events of “Rogue One” and shows us a younger Gerrera at a time before he became such an extremist as to break off from the Rebel Alliance.
Showrunner Dave Filoni reportedly worked alongside Lucasfilm story group chief Kiri Hart and ‘Rogue One’ director Gareth Edwards to come up with his backstory. The character is set to appear in the upcoming two-part episode “Ghosts of Geonosis.”
