It's been a long time since I started and soon after unfairly neglected this rubric on my blog. To make things right, for today I prepared a couple of recommendations that I thought you may find interesting to see, hear and read. Enjoy the post!

MOVIE: Waking Life (2001)

Dreams. What are they? Escape from reality or reality itself? Written and directed by Richard Linklater, movie Waking Life follows the dream(s) of one guy who's trying to figure out an absolute difference between dreamworld and waking life. While trying to find the way to wake up he runs into various people which tell him their thoughts on life, wakening and dreaming, discuss science, philosophy, meanings and purposes of the universe. Through that the protagonist becomes alarmed that he can't wake up from his confusing dream adventure. The movie opens a lot of questions, about dreams, what are they telling us about life, death, about ourselves but doesn't give answers. Instead, it inspires us to ask those questions and find the answers by ourselves. The movie is animated, but the scenes were first filmed with real actors (you'll see Wiley Wiggins, Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy etc.) and I think, I read that somewhere, around 40 different animation artist worked on it. I really love this movie! I saw it for the first time couple of years ago, when I started studying philosophy, and I always enjoy watching it again and again. One of the most thought provoking films I've ever seen!

PHOTOGRAPHY: Natalie Shau

Natalie Shau is mixed media artist and photographer from Lithuania. I first met with her work through Dark Beauty Magazine where I saw one of her illustrations. I was intrigued to see more of her work so went to her official site and found that she's also a photographer interested in fashion photography. I'm sharing with you photos that grabbed my eye the most and if you visit her site you'll find more amazing photos and illustrations too

MUSIC: UNKLE - Where Did The Night Fall (2010)

Next thing I'd like to recommend you comes from the music world, one of my favorite albums ever! I know I've declared myself as a punkrocker in "About me" section but my taste in music doesn't end with Ramones and Dead Kennedys. I'm into various music genres besides punk: grunge, alternative rock, indie rock, rockabilly, psychobilly, trip-hop, down tempo etc. UNKLE (or often stylised U.N.K.L.E.) is a British trip-hop group, found in 1994. Where Did The Night Fall is their fifth studio album, released in 2010. If you haven't heard any song from UNKLE this is a good album to start with. A bit dark and melancholic but still playful and passionate sound that manages to warm the soul, that's how I would describe it. I'm sharing with you a video for their 3rd single from this album, and at the same time my favorite song from it.

You can check the rest of the songs HERE

BOOK: The Art Of Loving by Erich Fromm

For the end I'd like to recommend you a book, The Art Of Loving by Erich Fromm. Fromm begins this book with an attempt to determine what is our most basic need in life. Many great thinkers have tried to answer this question and they have come up with many different answers. Erich Fromm feels that man's greatest necessity is to find union, or togetherness, in order to escape from the prison of his aloneness. Experience of separateness, Fromm feels, is the fundamental cause of anxiety and despair. People have tried many different ways to satisfy this need for togetherness. However, the only way that has ever been completely successful is through the act of love... I can't reveal you more, you must read the book for yourself. Valentine's day is near and this book can be also a nice gift.

P.S. I hope you like the new blog design. I found this cool template online. Just what I needed (though I had to change a lot in HTML)!. Plain and transparent with categories and  sub-categories menu which allows you find a content you're interested in in easier way. Also if you go to blog's homepage you'll see a slider with the latest 5 posts on the blog (sometimes it takes a couple of moments to load, I don't know why, so you have to wait a bit, or jest reload the page). Easy to catch up if you missed something!
