Last month, I received an invitation to try a product called Teosyal with Dr. Cory Torgerson. I’ll be honest, I had to Google what that was and when I realized it was an injectable filler, I almost dismissed the idea entirely. I read through her email and found the pitch – they were offering me the opportunity to try any or all of their Teosyal products (under-eyes, cheeks or lips). My initial reaction was “FUD” – fear, uncertainty and doubt.
I’m happy with my face and I don’t want to look like Lindsay Lohan…
That said, I was intrigued by the idea of trying something with such a stigma around it. Sure, there are people who misuse and overdo it with fillers, but I’m sure there are many more who use it modestly and no one even knows about it. So, I decided to go for a consultation.
I set up my appointment with Dr. Cory Torgerson – one of Toronto’s leading cosmetic surgeons and dermal filler expert. I did my research beforehand and felt very comfortable meeting with Dr. Torgerson after reading his patient testimonials and checking out his before and after gallery. I kicked off my consultation by asking a LOT of questions.
What is Teosyal and what makes it different from other dermal fillers?
Teosyal is Europe’s number one dermal filler, from Teoxane Laboratories in Geneva, Switzerland. They offer the most complete range of 100% non-animal origin, resorbable and biodegradable hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler products. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your skin; it acts like a sponge and retains large quantities of water to keep the skin plumped and soft. Teosyal is the purest filler on the market, resulting in less swelling and the most natural looking results.
How long does Teosyal last?
Depending on the area injected, Teosyal can last anywhere from 6-18 months and the results are visible immediately. Unlike other fillers, Teosyal has a cumulative effect, so less product is required for touch-up sessions.
What product recommendations would you make for me?
Dr. Torgerson examined my face and first suggested Teosyal Redensity II for my under-eye area. The skin around the eyes is very fragile and unfortunately, it reveals the signs of age and fatigue more than any other areas on the face. As a lean individual, these hollow, dark circles are even more prominent as I get older. To be honest, this is probably where I spend most of my effort during my makeup routine each day. I love the idea of plumping that area so I look less tired!
Secondly, he offered to let me try Teosyal Kiss to restore volume and redefine my lips in a very natural way. I was a little nervous at this suggestion because the media often negatively portrays lip injections and I DID NOT want to have fish lips. Dr. Torgerson laughed and said that he wouldn’t let anyone walk out of his office looking like that. He reassured me that my lips would look natural and that I would love the results. He did however warn me that lips are super sensitive so they would swell for a couple of days, but within a week, they would look great.
And with that, Dr. Torgerson asked me if I wanted to give it a shot – right then and there! The whole process would only take 10-15 minutes, so I took a deep breath and said “Let’s do this”. What did I have to lose? I was sitting in one of Toronto’s most reputable cosmetic clinics, with the leading expert on dermal fillers and the most natural product on the market. Worst case scenario – if I don’t like it, I can have it dissolved and be back to normal in no time.
We started with a numbing gel on my lips while Dr. Torgerson injected Teosyal Redensity II under my eyes. I felt the needle, but only slightly. Four quick shots later (two under each eye) and my eyes were done. I looked in the mirror and immediately noticed the difference! For my lips, he put two injections in the bottom lip and four along the top (the thinner of the two). I barely felt them thanks to the numbing gel. I looked in the mirror and was a little thrown off by the swelling but was reassured that it was 100% normal. The swelling got worse by the following day, but I continued to ice my lips and within four days, the swelling subsided completely. The under-eye area didn’t swell at all and I didn’t experience any bruising at the needle entry points.

I am SO happy with the results! Teosyal far surpassed my expectations and totally eliminated any negative ideas I had about dermal fillers. Here’s a breakdown of what I had:

1 Syringe Teosyal Kiss – for the lips
The cost of this would be approx. $2500 which is the hardest part to deal with! That said, the product can last up to 18 months so if it’s something you really enjoy, it’s worth the investment.
Would I do it again?
You bet! The area under my eyes no longer looks tired with dark circles and I spend way less time applying concealer to the area. I would definitely do Teosyal Redensity II again. The lips I did more out of curiosity, but I’m really loving the results. I would consider doing them again too! While I didn’t seek out either of these treatments, I’m so glad I had the opportunity to try them.
I think a lot of people dismiss the idea of dermal fillers based on fear or the worst Hollywood examples – I hope that this post helps to eliminate that stigma and prove that results can be natural.
