Spring is finally in the air and I’m pretty excited for my spring wardrobe after the winter we’ve had. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working spring essentials into my outfits for transitional style and I’ve also been shopping to stock up on the latest spring trends. The shops at Holt Renfrew Centre in Bloor-Yorkville have everything I’m looking for and then some!
I enjoy shopping at Holt Renfrew Centre because they have some of my favourite stores side by side in one convenient mid-town location. I spotted quite a few spring trends while I was there last week – so get ready to stock up and keep reading for your chance to WIN!
PASTELS: If there’s one spring trend that reigns supreme this year, this is it. Colour palettes always get lighter and brighter as the temperatures rise, but this season, soft pastels are taking over! I spotted pastel cropped sweaters, skater skirts and floppy hats at American Apparel, sheer pastel dolman cardigans with feminine floral camis at M for Mendocino and pastel heels at Zara.

OUTERWEAR: Soon we’ll be able to ditch our wool and down-filled winter coats for spring jackets. This season, it’s all about the elegant double-breasted trench coat and the utility-chic anorak jacket. You’ll find them in spring pastels, but classic khaki is the best investment.

Moto jackets are back this spring in real or faux leather options as well as cozy ponte knit styles. The classic jean jacket is also a must-have for any spring wardrobe – the layering options are fun! Most stores are carrying these staples, but Smart Set has great options for under $60.

LIGHT DENIM & KNITS: You’ll want to invest in a pair of cropped skinny jeans, distressed boyfriend jeans (that you can roll up at the ankles) and a chambray shirt. Overalls are also back this season if you dare! I’m a huge fan of a cozy cable knit sweater and jeans for a simple spring look with either sneakers or heels – M for Mendocino has a great sweater selection.
STATEMENT COLOURS: Even though pastels lead the pack, I noticed the recurrence of two statement colours during my shopping day at Holt Renfrew Centre. Bold variations of yellow and pink paired with classic black and white created eye-catching spring prints and colour blocking.
I really like the preppy contrast of canary yellow with navy blue and the edgy combination of neon yellow with black and white. I spotted lots of yellow at Smart Set and Zara.

PRINTS: Floral prints are always hot for spring, but I also noticed lots of stripes, polka dots and the trendy grid print trend while I was shopping at Holt Renfrew Centre.

SUNNIES: Even though most of us wear sunglasses all year, this spring there are fresh new varieties to choose from at Sunglass Hut. Instead of classic black or tortoiseshell, try a pair of colourful frames by Ray Ban or Tiffany and for extra fashion cred, try trendy mirrored lenses.
RAINWEAR: It’s not spring without spring showers! Stay stylish and dry during the rainy season with the latest gear at Raindrops. This boutique specializes in rainy day apparel, including coats, jackets or ponchos, boots and of course a wide variety of umbrellas. You’re guaranteed to find something unique with outstanding quality that will last you for years to come.
