A very effective way of promoting products adopted by most companies is by giving away promotional items. Items like umbrellas and t-shirts which are usually given out do an excellent job of promoting the company and spreading word about its products. These must be branded subtly- the logo must be attractive and conspicuous, yet must not be obstructive and blocking.
It is a common practice to have the company’s logo printed on the Promotional garments. The advantage of printing is that it is quick, economical, simple and has various techniques to offer. Summarised below are the most common techniques used in printing of apparels:
Screen Printing: Screen Printing is a process wherein an image is exposed or burned onto cloth using inks and mesh. It is one of the most common mechanisms used in clothes printing as it has the virtues of being a fairly simple process and reusability of the screen which means that the same screen is used several times to process designs and images of various types.
Vinyl Printing: This is commonly used for printing text and lettering on small objects, Stag T Shirts etc. This is also used for making Personalised Baby Clothes. In heat transfer vinyl printing, a special vinyl cutter machine is employed for cutting out images from a vinyl sheet. Heated vinyl is then pressed onto the apparel which glues it to the fabric. This technique has certain drawbacks like being limited to a very few colour selections due to mounting costs of inks, being time consuming and laborious.
Digital Printing: DTG Printing or Direct to Garment Printing is a process where exclusive inkjet printers are used to make prints on fabric directly. The apparel material absorbs the textile inks that are used in this process, thus producing an exclusive design. This process enjoys various advantages like producing images with striking clarity, unbeatable resolution and vibrant colours, being fast, simple and effective. However, it suffers from limitations like exorbitant costs due to costly inks required and no economy in small batches.
Sublimation Printing: Sublimation Printing is usually done to print on polyester items and is done by using heat. A special warmed gaseous ink is used to open pores on the polyester material for creating an image. This mechanism creates a very attractive and lucrative coloured image which is very stable and durable. This is why it is a very preferred method, despite the exorbitant cost involved. But the application of this technique is restricted to light coloured polyester items or white ones. It can also be applied on non-polyester items like keychains, mugs, puzzles, mouse pads etc.
Printing is not the only option companies resort to for publishing their logos on promotional items. Embroidery too is a very favoured option due to its simplicity and rich look, thus a lot of companies have Embroidered Workwear with company logo embroidery as their uniform. The specific design is created using an embroidery digitizer and can be stiched repeatedly using an embroidery machine. Distinguished and dominant designs can be created during the embroidery digitizing phase. Special effects like 3-D dimensions, shading, depth and applique can also be applied onto the design to customise it and make it identical to the company logo.
While Embroidery may be more cost intensive than printing, it should be remembered that it is more durable, washable and can last a lifetime. It also gives a superior and rich feel as compared to printing.
If the company is cost conscious, it can go in for printing, screen printing being the most affordable option. A mix of embroidery and printing can also be opted for in the creation of unique designs. This will combine quality and effectiveness with costs and make an impressive promotional item that will help in etching the name of the company in the mind of the consumer.
