We’re back with another round-up of news, this time focusing on the return of David Lynch’s seminal series, Twin Peaks, the upcoming Game of Thrones IMAX screenings, and when you can expect to see The Babadook haunt home media.
With Twin Peaks returning to television in nine all-new episodes in 2016 (25 years after it last aired), fans have been wondering which actors will come back. Series co-writer/director David Lynch and Showtime answered one big question by revealing that Kyle MacLachlan will once again step into the shoes of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper. Lynch even tweeted a new photo of MacLachlan as Agent Cooper holding a “damn fine” cup of coffee. Here’s the official press release (via Collider) and photo (via David Lynch):
Press Release – “Golden Globe winner and Emmy® Award nominee Kyle MacLachlan will reprise his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper when the critically-acclaimed, ground breaking television phenomenon TWIN PEAKS returns as a new limited series on SHOWTIME. Series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost are on board to write and produce all nine episodes of the limited series. Four-time Oscar® nominee David Lynch will direct every episode. TWIN PEAKS will go into production in 2015 to air on the network in 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of when the program last aired. As the star of TWIN PEAKS, MacLachlan received two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award. MacLachlan other television credits include The Good Wife, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sex and The City, Desperate Housewives, Believe, How I Met Your Mother, Portlandia, In Justice and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. MacLachlan made his feature film debut in 1984 in the futuristic drama Dune, directed by David Lynch. This was followed by his second collaboration with Lynch in 1986 in Blue Velvet. His other feature film credits include Mao’s Last Dancer, The Doors, Breathe In, Peace, Love and Misunderstanding, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 Hamlet, Timecode, One Night Stand, The Trigger Effect, The Flinstones, The Trial and the cult classic Showgirls. MacLachlan made his directorial debut in 1993 with an episode of the darkly comic hit series Tales from the Crypt.
For viewers hoping to reminisce or for those discovering the series for the first time, SHOWTIME will re-air the first two seasons of TWIN PEAKS, in advance of the new episodes going on air in 2016. Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, TWIN PEAKS followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer is shockingly murdered. The town’s sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the town’s secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues…”

A far cry from the creatures depicted in the vibrant tales of Dr. Seuss, the monster from the Mister Babadook storybook in the Australian horror film, The Babadook, will come stateside via home media on April 14th courtesy of Shout! Factory (likely under their Scream Factory label), Blu-ray.com reports.
“Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both.
When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son’s behaviour, is forced to medicate him.
But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.”
Written and directed by Jennifer Kent, The Babadook stars Essie Davis, Daniel Henshall, Tim Purcell, Tiffany Lyndall-Knight, and Noah Wiseman.
