Prolific producer Jason Blum brings horror hits to the big screen and now looks to do the same on the printed page. Doubleday and Vintage Books have teamed up with Blumhouse Productions to launch publishing label Blumhouse Books, setting the short story collection The Blumhouse Book of Nightmares: The Haunted City as its first release with Ethan Hawke and Eli Roth among its contributors.

Showcasing more than twenty stories, The Blumhouse Book of Nightmares: The Haunted City will come out in July 2015. In addition to the big name authors, Blumhouse Books is putting on a contest in which fans can submit their own stories for publication consideration, with the winning story securing a spot in the book. We have the official press release with full details:

“(Los Angeles, CA, October 31st, 2014) – Doubleday and Vintage Books announced a collaboration with Blumhouse Productions, the company behind renowned genre franchises like Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious, and Sinister. Blumhouse Books will be a multi-title, multi-format publishing program that will launch with the publication of The Blumhouse Book of Nightmares: The Haunted City. This inaugural book, which will be published simultaneously in hardcover, trade paperback and ebook in July 2015, will be an anthology of original short fiction and will feature some of the biggest names in horror filmmaking today. Doubleday Publisher William Thomas and Vintage Executive Editor Edward Kastenmeier secured world rights from Creative Artists Agency. Doubleday Associate Editor Rob Bloom will edit the collection. Nick Simonds, a former Acquisitions Editor at Atria Books, will oversee the imprint for Blumhouse as Director of Publishing.

Blumhouse gives its filmmakers creative freedom to make genre movies they are passionate about and took the same approach with this anthology by asking contributors to share horror stories they always wanted to write. Contributors to The Blumhouse Book of Nightmares will include Ethan Hawke, Eli Roth, Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, Christopher Denham and James DeMonaco, among others. Taken together, the more than twenty stories collected in the book create an unforgettable cityscape of horror that is every bit as devilish and demonic as Blumhouse’s films. Also announcing today is a consumer contest inviting fans to submit their own horror short fiction for possible inclusion in the collection. Top submissions will be posted on the Blumhouse Books website and social media, where fans will be asked to vote for the single best entry. The winning story will be included in all editions of The Blumhouse Book of Nightmares. Contest details are provided in full at www.blumhousebooks.com
