Training facility opens October 1; boot camp begins on August 26

COPPELL, TEXAS (August 12, 2013)— During his decade-long service in the foreign mission field, Todd Szalkowski has traveled to Sudan, South America and various other parts of the world in order to help people transform their lives. For his next transformations, he’s bringing it back home.

In October, the 19-year Coppell resident will open the doors to CrossFit Coppell Central, a training facility designed to help individuals achieve overall physical fitness through a revolutionary program that concentrates on “constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.” While CrossFit workouts are intense, demanding all-out physical exertion in a short amount of time through a combination of movements such as sprinting, rowing, jumping rope, climbing rope, flipping tires, weightlifting and other exercises, Szalkowski says the program’s results are quick.

“I have never seen regular folks transform their bodies faster than when these people combine five CrossFit workouts per week and a healthy diet,” he said. “I have watched several people lose 30 pounds and add 20 pounds of muscle in just four months. They look great, and they say that they feel great.

“And I know the feeling, because I am one of those people,” added Szalkowski, who became certified as a CrossFit Level One trainer seven months after starting the program in August 2012 and now competes as a Masters athlete at age 49.

Located at 612 E. Sandy Lake Road, Suite 180, next to Family Video, CrossFit Coppell Central officially opens on October 1, but will offer a month-long boot camp in the parking lot beginning August 26. Participants can sign up for the camp, with sessions held Monday through Friday at 5 a.m., by logging on to www.crossfitcoppellcentral.com.

Additional classes and personal training sessions will be added to the schedule once CrossFit Coppell Central opens its doors in October. Led by certified CrossFit Level One trainers Szalkowski and Jared Leal, who also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science from the University of Oklahoma, participants will complete a workout of the day—or “WOD,” as it is referred to in the CrossFit community—consisting of an ever-changing program of exercises, mostly in three-set repetitions.

For Szalkowski, who left the corporate world 10 years ago to pursue full-time ministry, the versatility of the CrossFit program seems to reflect his personal and professional journey. As he continues to travel the world to help people in other countries, Szalkowski, wife, Amy, and daughters, Avery and Wesley, also plan to use the new family business as a platform for transformation in their own community and abroad … and in more ways than one.

One Saturday every quarter, the facility will be closed in order for members to assist a local family in need through a service project. Szalkowski says CrossFit Coppell Central also will match monetary contributions made by members to support microfinance and the creation of schools in South Sudan, the poorest country in the world.

“Today, I combine ministry and entrepreneurial pursuits, both as opportunities to serve others,” he explained. “I want the DNA of our CrossFit community to include serving others.”
