Season Premiere Sunday, April 5 at 10/9c on WGN America

Saturday Night Live alums Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig filmed a Lifetime movie about a couple whose plans to adopt a baby go awry. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news about the secret project, exec produced by Ferrell (apparently a fan of Lifetime movies) and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions. A Deadly Adoption, expected to debut in early summer, is described as “campy and fun and a contemporary wink at the genre.”

IN THE NEWS

TV One viewers get three chances to watch the 30th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards - including Michelle Williams performing with former Destiny’s Child band mates Kelly Rowland and Beyonce. The show airs back-to-back at 6p, 8p and 10p on Sunday, April 5, part of the net’s effort to “encourage viewers to spend part of their Easter weekend with TV One,” said D’Angela Proctor, SVP programming and production.

Fred Armisen (Portlandia) will host the Peabody Awards ceremony on May 31, in an event moved from lunchtime to evening and complete with red carpet. Winners, for excellence in storytelling, will be announced in four stages, including one on Good Morning America; the evening ceremony airs in primetime on Pivot. “The changes better represent what the awards are and have been,” said Jeffrey P. Jones, director of the George Foster Peabody Awards at the University of Georgia.

Looks like well-known germaphobe Howie Mandel will be shaking hands on season ten of America’s Got Talent. At NBCU’s summer press tour on Thursday, Mandel said that while he’d put his therapist in a “whole new tax bracket” dealing with his OCD, it took all of five minutes for one of the upcoming season’s contestants to hypnotize him into “touching things I never touched before.” New season launches May 26 on NBC.

Tommy Tune is set to receive a special Lifetime Achievement award at the Tonys, airing Sunday, June 7 on CBS. The nine-time Tony winning performer/director/choreographer is currently touring in a one-man show.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

NBC ordered two specials starring the season nine winner of America’s Got Talent, documenting his journey from Rhode Island to a headlining gig in Las Vegas. No airdates yet for Mat Franco’s Got Magic, from FremantleMedia North America.

Ingrid Escajeda (Justified) inked a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to develop and supervise projects. First up: a co-exec producer role on Fox hit Empire.

COMING UP

After the Sunday, April 5 season seven premiere of River Monsters, Animal Planet’s best-performing series, the net is introducing 100 Miles From Nowhere. Docu-series features three adventurous pals traveling to remote locations on foot, raft, skis and skateboard – with every expedition self-shot. “It’s so different from anything else on television,” said Marjorie Kaplan, group president for Animal Planet, TLC and Velocity. “These are guys you want to spend time with.” New series bows at 10p.

“Blood will be spilled,” promises El Rey Network of its “Carmageddon” movie marathon Saturday, April 4. Cars-ploitation films launch with Dennis Weaver in Duel at 10a.

Restaurant chefs have the chance to meet their online critics – and hopefully sway their opinions – in FYI’s Say It To My Face!, debuting Saturday, May 9 at 9p from Pie Town Productions.

In a summer slate packed with ten original series, TNT announced launch dates for three new arrivals: drama Proof, starring Jennifer Beals and Matthew Modine, bows Tuesday, June 16 at 10p, after Rizzoli & Isles; spin-off Cold Justice: Sex Crimes premieres Friday, July 31 after Cold Justice and police drama Public Morals, from Edward Burns and Steven Spielberg, debuts Monday, August 17 at 9p.

A Bone to Pick: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery premieres Saturday, April 4 at 9p on both Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, a first for the sister nets. Candace Cameron Bure and Marilu Henner star.

The season finale of Body Bizarre lives up to its name with a man born with three legs, a woman covered in bubble-shaped growths and possibly the world’s tallest teenager, airing on Discovery Life Saturday, April 4 at 10p.

Drama continues when the cast of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop NYC reunites for a two-part special Monday, April 6 and April 13 at 8p. Season five has been the top non-sports telecast on Mondays among W18-49 since its premiere.

RETURNING SHOWS

Haunted hotspots are the setting for Ghost Asylum, returning for season two on Destination America Sunday, April 5 at 10p. Warning: The abandoned sanitariums and penitentiaries where the Tennessee Wraith Chasers hunt ghosts “are not for the faint of heart,” said Marc Etkind, net GM.

Season three of WE tv’s Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars launches Friday, May 29 at 9p. Cast includes Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett (Kendra on Top), Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and Lauren Pesce (The Sorrentinos), Aubrey O’Day and Travis Garland (Making the Band, All About Aubrey), Tami Roman and Reggie Youngblood (Basketball Wives), and Jeff Schroeder and Jordan Lloyd (Big Brother).

BRANDS & ADVERTISING

Neutrogena Naturals isn’t just trying to eliminate water waste with its new campaign for environmentally friendly makeup wipes – it’s wiping out TV ads, too. The company’s annual Earth Month campaign is all digital, centered on the #WipeforWater hashtag on Twitter and Instagram with an assist from social-savvy spokesperson Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) and online influencers. The strategy “makes our spend effective and efficient with messaging that’s much more relevant to consumers,” brand manager Simon Geraghty said in Adweek.
