Marla Provencio, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, ABC Entertainment, is leaving the company after 35+ years. “It is hard to think about the brand without her,” wrote ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey in an email to staff. “Her contributions to our success and what we stand for are limitless.” Provencio will step back from day-to-day duties, but remain through June to help with the transition.
Fox News Executive Vice President of Advertising Sales Paul Rittenberg is stepping down, effective April 28. “It has been one of my greatest honors to help build the Fox News brand from the ground up,” said Rittenberg. “I am so proud of what were able to accomplish and am grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented team.” Rittenberg, who joined Fox News in 1996, was one of the network’s first employees.
Vanessa Pombo was promoted to the newly-created position of Vice President of Production Management and Business News, Telemundo Network. Pombo will manage domestic and international broadcast news operations.
Crown Media Family Networks appointed Jane Gross as Creative Director of On-Air Promotion. Gross joins Crown Media from Pivot, where she served as Creative Director of Creative Services.
America’s Public Television Stations announced the election of its new board leaders and members: Ronnie Agnew, Executive Director of Mississippi Public Broadcasting, has been elected Chairman; Roy Clem, Executive Director of Alabama Public Television, has been elected as the Professional Vice Chair; and Carol Kellermann, Lay Trustee, Thirteen/WNET in New York, has been elected as Lay Vice Chair.
Jennifer Solari has been named Senior Vice President, Media and Talent at Sony Pictures Television. Most recently, Solari was Vice President, Program Publicity and Communications at MTV.
Mallory Thiel has joined Bungalow Media & Entertainment as Director of Development. Previously, Thiel consulted as Director of Development at Bray Entertainment, and served as Manager of Development and Current Production at Oxygen.
Jonathan Wald is departing CNN to become SVP, programming and development, at MSNBC. Wald had been executive producer of Don Lemon’s primetime show at CNN.
Kendis Gibson was named co-anchor of ABC News’ America This Morning and World News Now co-anchor, joining Diane Macedo. Gibson, who filled in for the newscasts last year, joined ABC News in December 2014. Prior to that, he was an anchor and reporter at WJLA in Washington, DC.
Comedy Central GM David Bernath is leaving the company after 12 years, effective March 15 and will be replaced by Tanya Giles, a Viacom veteran who’s being promoted to that role.
JP Bommel is new the president/CEO at NATPE. Bommel previously held the position of managing director and COO at the television and content industry association since August 2015.
Shelly Sumpter Gillyard has been promoted to the new position of EVP, talent, music and events at the Nickelodeon Group. Sumpter Gillyard oversees all talent relations across live TV events, music and live-action programming.
Entertainment One Television appointed Gary Gradinger to the role of EVP, global business and legal affairs. Gradinger comes to eOne with more than 20 years of television industry experience, most recently working with Lionsgate Television and Lionsgate Digital Studios.
A+E Networks hired Kevin McAuliffe as a consultant for The Bridge, the company’s new creative-led ad agency. Most recently, McAuliffe served as SVP, global partnership & branded content, for WME|IMG.
Valerie Meraz has been promoted to SVP of content acquisitions & strategy for Turner‘s entertainment networks. She joined Turner in 2012 as VP of program acquisitions.
Jannat Gargi, a film producer and manager of documentary films for Vulcan Productions, will join the Redford Center’s Board of Directors. The nonprofit Redford Center, co-founded by Robert Redford, was established to transform social and environmental issues into entertaining, educational, solutions-oriented content.
Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment appointed Elana Sofko as its SVP of business development and distribution, and Michael Winter as its SVP of programming and development. Sofko previously led digital initiatives for WWE and ESPN.
Susana Zepeda Cagan has been named VP of talent for Turner Classic Movies (TCM) & FilmStruck. She previously served as head of talent and studio relations for NBCU’s Fandango.
The Fusion Media Group announced media lawyer Lynn Oberlander will become general counsel for the Gizmodo Media Group. Oberlander joins GMG from First Look Media Works, where she served as general counsel, media operations since early 2014.
Twelve-year Viacom vet Frank Tanki has been promoted to General Manager, TV Land. Tanki will oversee strategy ad day-to-day operations for the channel. Tanki most recently served as Executive Vice President, Brand Marketing and Creative, Spike TV.
Claudia Foghini was upped to Executive Vice President, Talent Management and Production Services at Telemundo Networks and Studios. Foghini had been SVP of Production Strategy at Telemudo Studios.
Alkemy X has added Creative Director Geoff Bailey to its New York office. Most recently, Bailey was Creative Director at loyalkaspar.
Viva Entertainment Group, developer of an OTT system, appointed Michael Nagle to its Board of Directors. Nagle serves as SVP Digital Distribution & Business Development for NatureVision TV.
Disney Media Distribution President Ben Pyne is leaving the company after 25 years. “Ben’s reputation in our industry is second-to-none,” said Bruce Rosenblum, President, Business Operations, Disney/ABC. “What he’s built here at Disney, and what he’s been able to accomplish over the past 25 years, is truly remarkable.” Added Pyne, “I am honored to have had such an amazing career at The Walt Disney Company, which has been rich with unique experiences and incredible accomplishments, and prepared me well for my next opportunity. It has been a special privilege to help build and grow brands, networks and programming that touch and enrich the lives of viewers all around the world.” Pyne will stay through the summer to aid the transition.
Naomi Bulochnikov-Paul was named Vice President, Communications, Freeform. She last served as served as Vice President, Media and Talent Relations for Crackle, Sony Pictures Television’s streaming network
Lionsgate upped Marcello Bellisario to Senior Vice President of Talent and Casting. He held the first head of Casting and Talent Relations position in Lionsgate Television history, a department and Vice President position he created when he joined the company in 2014.
Amani Duncan was named Senior Vice President of Music for MTV. She was previously Vice President of Brand Marketing for C.F. Martin & Co., Inc.
2C Creative promoted Nikki Coloma to General Manager, Senior Director of Operations. She joined the company in 2009 after serving as a production coordinator for Worldwide Productions.
Entravision Communications Corporation upped Jeffery Liberman to the additional position of President. As the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Liberman will continue to lead the management and operation of all of Entravision’s radio, television and digital media properties.
United Entertainment Group added two senior team hires. Subodh Samudre was named Executive Creative Director, while Tom Howells joined the agency as Vice President of Planning. Samudre last served as creative director for Saatchi NY, while Howells was Vice President of the Strategic Planning team at Edelman.
