IN THE NEWS
Syfy has acquired 10-part unscripted series Troy: Street Magic. The show follows British magician Troy Von Scheibner as he hits the streets of London performing tricks and stunts. The show is slated to premiere in January.
Al Jazeera America is airing the special Journalism Is Not A Crime on Monday, December 29 to mark the one-year anniversary of the 2013 arrests of three of its employees in Egypt: Australian correspondent Peter Greste, Canadian-Egyptian bureau chief Mohamed Fahmy and Egyptian producer Baher Mohamed. Accused of spreading false news, Greste and Fahmy were each sentenced to seven years in prison, while Mohamed was sentenced to 10. John Seigenthaler hosts the special, which addresses the dangers faced by journalists abroad.
Destination America is adding TNA Wrestling’s Greatest Matches to its weekend lineup of wrestling programming. The hour-long show features contests of TNA superstars such as Kurt Angle, Sting, Jeff Hardy, Mr. Anderson, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles. The programming debuts with a three-episode mini-marathon on Saturday, January 10 at 10a. Two additional episodes air on Friday, January 16 at 9A, before the show moves to its regular day and time slot on Saturday, January 17 at 12p.
Kevin Hart (Wedding Ringer) will host the first Saturday Night Live of 2015 on Saturday, January 17 at 11:30p. He last hosted the show in March 2013. A musical guest has not yet been announced.
PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
FOX is developing an action drama series from Basil Iwanyk‘s Thunder Road Television and Warner Brothers. The untitled project, written by Arrow co-executive producer Wendy Mericle, centers on the first group of female U.S. soldiers vying for a spot with the Navy SEALs. Series is set on Coronado Island.
The CW is collaborating with producer Scooter Braun and Tony nominee Todd Graff on a new music drama. The untitled project follows the rise of Gary Graham, a brilliant young manager. The series has received a script commitment and is slated to feature original songs and cameos from some of pop culture’s biggest stars.
COMING UP
ABC Family says goodbye to 2014 with a “That’s So Throwback” programming block, featuring Disney Channel classic comedy series Lizzie McGuire, That’s So Raven, Even Stevens and original movies The Cheetah Girls and Halloweentown. It begins airing Monday, December 29 at 12a.
Univision’s Feliz 2015 will consist of performances by Leslie Grace, Luis Coronel, Maite Perroni, and Va Por Ti winner and finalists Yazaira Lopez, Fernando Corona, Paloma Carrasco, Jose Enrique Poyato and Virginia Stille. The celebration broadcasts live from Times Square in New York, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, Mexico City and Acapulco, Mexico on Wednesday, December 31 at 8p.
RETURNING SERIES
The Haves and the Have Nots from Tyler Perry returns Tuesday, January 6 at 9p for a second season.The OWN drama picks up after the kidnapping of Judge Jim Cryer (John Schneider) by his nemesis, Candace Young (Tika Sumpter).
The Robertson clan is back to their hijinks when the A&E Network hit series Duck Dynasty returns for an all-new season on Wednesday, January 7 at 9:30p. Immediately following at 10p, Wahlburgers debuts, as brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul continue to expand the family burger franchise. The night rounds out with the one-hour wedding premiere of Donnie Loves Jenny at 10:30p, which follows Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy from preparing for their big day to their first moments as husband and wife.
CASTING
Mike Colter (The Good Wife) is headed to the upcoming Netflix series A.K.A. Jessica Jones. He’ll play Luke Cage, a street thug turned strength-enhanced hero.

DISTRIBUTION AND CARRIAGE
The Walt Disney Company and The National Cable Television Cooperative have announced a long-term retransmission consent agreement for ABC’s eight owned local stations. It marks the first Disney and NCTC have signed a retrans deal. Stations include WABC-TV in New York City, KABC-TV in Los Angeles, WLS-TV in Chicago, WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, KGO-TV in San Francisco, WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, KTRK-TV in Houston and KFSN in Fresno. Additionally, NCTC members in ABC-owned markets will continue to have the ability to provide the authenticated WATCH ABC live streaming service to their customers.

Spike TV’s Ink Master season 5 delivered an average of 2.1 million, its most-watched season in franchise history. The live finale did 2.3 million viewers on December 16.
Nickelodeon is projected to end 2014 as the top basic cable network in total day with kids 2-11 (2.6/808K) and total viewers (1.5MM), according to Nielsen Media Research (12/30/13-12/18/14). In a year marked by a record amount of new content launches, Nick’s 2014 performance is currently +13% ahead of the next closest competitor with kids 2-11 and ahead +9% among total viewers.

IN MEMORIAM
Character actor Booth Colman died in his sleep on December 15 at the age of 91. He appeared in over 50 films, including The Big Sky and Intolerable Cruelty, but is best known for his television work, including guest spots on Gunsmoke, Hogan’s Heroes, Perry Mason, The Waltons and Frasier.
Chairman Emeritus of Levy-Gardner-Productions Arthur Gardner died Friday, December 19 in Beverly Hills. He was 104 and the oldest and last surviving co-founder of the longest lived production company in Hollywood history. Together with partners Jules V. Levy and Arnold Laven, the trio produced over 20 motion pictures and television series, including The Rifleman (19581963) and The Big Valley.
