Joel McHale, comedian and star of CBS’ The Great Indoors, will host People’s Choice Awards 2017, to be broadcast live on Wednesday, January 18 from 9-11p on CBS.

ABC is upping its Bachelor game with The Bachelor Fantasy League, its take on a sports rotisserie game for the upcoming season of The Bachelor, which kicks off in January. Players can predict the top four women who will make it to the hometown-dates level of the reality series and who will get the final rose. There also will be weekly games for prizes.

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman reached a settlement with True Entertainment that requires True to pay $411,000 in restitution to hundreds of employees who did not receive overtime pay despite routinely working more than 40 hours per week. The company, which produces reality shows including Bravo’s The Real Housewives Of Atlanta, also agreed to comply with overtime laws going forward. Settlement funds will be distributed to production assistants, associate producers, and workers who performed equivalent tasks for True Entertainment.

The New York Television Festival and truTV are teaming to find independent television creators to create scripted and unscripted content for the network in their first Comedy Breakout Initiative. truTV is offering the winner a development budget of up to $25,000 and opportunity to work with its executive team. Submissions will be accepted from January 25-February 17; in support of the initiative, truTV and NYTVF also hoisting a free outreach event January 9 in NY.

Telemundo Deportes rolled out a six-month multiplatform promotional campaign for the kickoff of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, which will take place in Russia in June. The campaign includes a series of spots focusing on the FIFA confederations champions from around the world uniting with the host country and the current FIFA World Cup champion, for the tournament. Also, Telemundo Network’s daily properties Un Nuevo Dia, Suelta la Sopa, Noticiero Telemundo, Titulares y Mas and Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste feature Telemundo Deportes sportscasters speaking about what to expect from the upcoming event. PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

On the heels of its seventh season finale this week (and following an “equal pay” salary dispute with Emmy Rossum), Showtime ordered an eighth season of Shameless. Season 7 ranks as the highest-rated season to date for the show, starring William H. Macy and Rossum. Production on 12 new episodes will begin in 2017.

USA Network renewed its breakout drama Shooter for a second season. Based on the best-selling novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 film, the series debuted in November and stars Ryan Phillippe as a former Marine and decorated sniper who is on the run.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

RLTV is debuting several new series this week. Starting Wednesday, December 21 at 10p, Style In Steel celebrates the classic cars that have defined their eras, from the luxury of the Duesenberg Model J to the style of the Avions Voisin C20. Also launching this week, the weeknight 7p series P. Allen Smith’s Garden Style is infused with easy gardening projects, practical home and garden maintenance tips, cooking features and design makeover segments.

truTV is ringing in the new. Pop culture comedy countdown Greatest Ever, hosted by comedian Amanda Seales, returns with new eps on Monday, December 26 at 10:30p. Then, hosts Kevin Pereira and Brooke Van Poppelen are back with new shortcuts guaranteed to save today’s busy adults a lot of time, effort and money in Hack My Life; season 3 launches on Tuesday, January 31 at 10p. Magician by trade but trickster at heart, Michael Carbonoro will debut a new batch of unexpected tricks for the third season of The Carbonaro Effect, premiering Wednesday, February 1 at 10p, and prankster-filled Impractical Jokers returns Thursday, February 9 at 10p with new antics from Joe, Sal, Murr, and Q. Season 5 concluded with the Impractical Jokers Live: Nitro Circus Spectular two-hour live finale that drew 1.2 million fans on Thursday, November 3.

A new slate of shows is ready to roll on Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks’ Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network beginning Monday, December 26 with more than 1,620 new eps from returning series across all three networks. Outdoor Channel has a fresh roster of shows for Q1, including Duck Dynasty (Mondays at 7p), new spinoff Commander Life (Mondays at 6:30p) and the return of Carter’s W.A.R. (Fridays at 7p). Sportsman Channel highlights include the return of Winchester Deadly Passion (Sundays at 11:30a), Major League Bowhunter (Tuesdays at 8:30p) and Guns & Ammo, which moves to a new time Thursdays at 9p. World Fishing Network will offer new series Hook n’ Look (Wednesdays at 9p) and Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show (Sundays at 11a).

A&E Network will debut its documentary series Generation KKK on January 10 at 10p. By actively targeting families and indoctrinating children, membership in the Ku Klux Klan is on the rise, causing America to come face to face with its stark divisions. Cameras follow four prominent Klan families who each have a family member trying to escape the group. This series pulls back the curtain on the organization that the Anti-Defamation League calls “a racist, anti-Semitic movement with a commitment to extreme violence to achieve its goals of racial segregation and white supremacy,” to show its effects on American families as members grapple with the consequences of leaving.

Motor masterminds Richard Rawlings, Aaron Kaufman and the entire Gas Monkey Garage crew return to Discovery with new builds and new episodes of Fast N’ Loud on Monday, January 16 at 9p.

Season 6 of Gotham Comedy bows on AXS TV on January 19 at 10p. The weekly series highlights some of the nation’s top stand-up comedians, as emerging talent and established favorites take the stage at the world-famous Gotham Comedy Club in NY. Each episode is hosted by a different entertainment personality, kicking off with comedy trailblazers Cheech & Chong in a return to their onstage roots.

Suits returns to USA Network on January 25 with six new episodes, picking up immediately following the emotional midseason finale in which Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) said goodbye to Pearson Specter Litt, leaving the struggling firm in the hands of senior partners Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman).

LMN’s new series Babies Behind Bars, debuting January 31 at 10p, sheds light on a radical program that allows pregnant inmates to give birth and raise their babies inside of a maximum security prison. Nearly 75,000 women are entering prison in the US each year, and as many as 7,500 are pregnant when they enter.

TNT will bring back its ensemble cast of detectives to solve eight more mysteries in the fifth season of Major Crimes, beginning Wednesday, February 22, at 9p.

The second season of You Me Her, the original rom-com series from AT&T Audience Network and Entertainment One, will premiere Tuesday, February 14 at 8:30p. The 10 half-hour episodes will air exclusively on Audience Network, via DirecTV, AT&T U-verse and DirecTV Now.

COMING UP

Buble is back with his sixth annual NBC special, Michael Buble Sings and Swings,  taped in October before a live audience in Manchester, England, and airing tonight at 8p. Then at 9p, the network will air Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best Is Yet To Come, a two-hour special filmed at Radio City Music Hall celebrating the 19-time Grammy winner’s 90th birthday featuring Buble, Lady Gaga, Billy Joel, Elton John, Diana Krall, k.d. lang, Leslie Odom Jr., Rufus Wainwright and Stevie Wonder, among others.

Esquire Network kicks off winter break Ninja Warrior style with Ninjathon, a seven-day marathon of Team Ninja Warrior, Team Ninja Warrior: College Madness, American Ninja Warrior and Ninja Warrior (Sasuke) episodes continuously running from Monday, December 26 at 7p through Monday, January 2 at 4a.

American Masters – Eero Saarinen: The Architect Who Saw the Future will debut on PBS on Tuesday, December 27 at 8p. The special explores the life and visionary work of Finnish-American modernist architectural giant Eero Saarinen (1910-61), best known for designing St. Louis’ iconic Gateway Arch, NY’s TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Virginia’s Dulles Airport.

TeleXitos, the national Spanish-language multicast network that delivers series and feature films without subtitles, will air Airwolf and Knight Rider on the network for the first time in a double-header beginning Monday, January 2 at 8p.

From Montauk to Sonoma, Bravo Media is hosting a special two-hour Vanderpump Rules celebration on Monday, January 9 at 9p. The ep will feature birthday celebrations for series stars Stassi and Arianna.

On Sunday, January 15, National Geographic will commemorate President Obama’s legacy with a night of programming, beginning at 8p with the one-hour documentary Sea of Hope: America’s Underwater Treasures, followed by the two-hour special Obama: The Price of Hope, beginning at 9p. Sea of Hope follows ocean explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Nat Geo photographer Brian Skerry, environmental activist Max Kennedy and their crew of teenage aquanauts on a yearlong environmental quest. Obama: The Price of Hope provides an intimate portrait of the Obama administration via access to the president and his inner circle, including frank interviews with Obama himself as well as David Axelrod, Hillary Clinton, Robert Gates, Tim Geithner and Harry Reid.

Sony Movie Channel kicks off 2017 with an explosive January lineup full of action epics, creature features, classic comedies, award-winning dramas, and much more. The month’s roster includes Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in an El Mariachi three-pack; a Godzilla block; back-to-back Samuel L. Jackson thrillers; a night of Cheech & Chong and Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor; and Johnny Depp and Al Pacino in Donnie Brasco.

CMT will launch blues series Sun Records on Thursday, February 23 at 10p. The new scripted show based on the Tony Award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet will join Nashville to complete CMT’s new Thursday lineup.

DISTRIBUTION

Ovation TV renewed its distribution agreement with the National Cable Television Cooperative. Under the terms of the agreement, Ovation TV will be available to NCTC’s member cable systems and their millions of subscribers across the US.  The network, currently available in nearly 50 million homes, has been a partner of the NCTC and their members since 1996.

DIGITAL DOINGS

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, dick clark productions and Twitter are partnering to exclusively live stream The HFPA Presents: Globes Red Carpet Live, the official red carpet pre-show for the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 8, from 6-8p. The preshow will be available in the US for Twitter’s logged-in and logged-out audience on Twitter and connected devices and can be found at goldenglobes.twitter.com, in Twitter Moments or @goldenglobes.

Sundance Now, the online streaming service backed by AMC Networks, debuted season 2 of moody French spy series The Bureau. It picks up from the first season, which introduced a clandestine branch of undercover agents within the French secret service.

UK-based Sundog Pictures landed its latest commission from BBC Three for Reggie Yates: Hidden Australia, a two-part series that will see Yates travel Down Under to explore the issues facing young Australians in the 21st century.

Bravo Media is pacing to finish 2016 with the biggest on-air and digital growth among the top 10 ad-supported cable entertainment networks in A25-54. Bravo is up 4 percent in A25-54 year to date, netting its highest ranking ever in the demo at No. 8, while also marking its sixth consecutive year in the top 10. In addition, Bravo ranks No. 9 in A18-49, its fourth consecutive year in the top 10, and is up 7 percent in Total Viewers year to date.

From 7-11p against a big game on NBC’s Sunday Night Football (Cowboys-Buccaneers) and an NFL-overrun fueled CBS (Patriots-Broncos), ABC’s annual rebroadcast of the 1965 theatrical The Sound of Music topped its telecast on the same Sunday last year by 10 percent in Total Viewers (5.3 million vs. 4.8 million) and by 10 percent in A18-49 (1.1/4 vs. 1.0/3).

Discovery Channel‘s annual primetime week of programming under the “Mega Week” banner aired from December 4-10 and delivered mega ratings for the network as eps of Gold Rush, Street Outlaws, Fast ‘N Loud, Alaska: The Last Frontier, Treasure Quest, Snake Island and Moonshines pushed Discovery to be Cable’s No. 1 non-sports network in M25-54. Discovery Channel also owned more Top 10 unscripted cable telecasts for the week than any other network across all key men (25-54/18-49/18-34).
