PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

TNT added two new original dramas to its 2016 slate: Good Behavior, starring Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) and Juan Diego Botto (1492: Conquest of Paradise) in an adaptation of the Letty Dobesh novels by Wayward Pines author Blake Crouch; and Animal Kingdom, starring Emmy and Tony winner Ellen Barkin (Sea of Love) as the matriarch of a Southern California family whose excessive lifestyle is fueled by their criminal activities. The network ordered 10 eps of both series; production begins in early 2016.

Get ready for adventure on the high seas. The U.S. Coast Guard, in conjunction with production house Armada Partners, is developing a scripted series that will feature stories both based on current feats and the organization’s history in the US and abroad. David M. Rudy will exec-produce for Armada Partners; retired USCG Commander Jeff Loftus will serve as lead technical consultant.

For Fargo creator/executive Noah Hawley, there’s no place like FX. Hawley inked a new three-year overall deal with FX Productions and FX Networks. Hawley will remain creator and showrunner of Fargo, while also developing new projects.

USA is developing 8 Years Lost, a documentary-style crime story from Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and written by Lauren MacKenzie and Andrew Gettens (Elementary). The series, fictional but in the true crime oeuvre, is about a teenage girl who went missing in 2007 and whose body is discovered eight years later, having been only recently killed.

Melissa Joan Hart (Melissa & Joey), Paula Hart’s Hartbreak Films and 44 Blue Productions are developing family docuseries Sweet Harts. The series follows the Harts as they open a dessert shop in Westport, CT, focusing on Melissa Joan Hart and her ex-showbiz siblings.

COMING UP

One-hour ID special Checklist for Murder investigates the case of Robert Peernock, whose mission to expose government corruption took a chilling turn when his wife turns up dead and daughter badly injured. Tune in on Saturday, December 12 at 9p.

Two and counting. TLC will launch three-part special Jill & Jessa: Counting On with a 90-minute premiere Sunday, December 13, at 8p. The camera follows the next chapter of Jill (Duggar) Dillard and Jessa (Duggar) Seewald and their own families. The subsequent specials will air on December 20 and 27, both at 9p.

CBS will air the 24th Annual Deer Valley Celebrity Skifest Sunday, December 13, at 5p. From Juma Entertainment, the special features ski racing, a concert from Dierks Bentley, a poker tournament, and live auction to benefit Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Waterkeeper Alliance, an organization dedicated to protecting waterways around the world.

E! is giving the royal treatment to its first original scripted drama. Following the new episode of The Royals on December 27 at 10p, the network for the first time will air post-show The Royal Hangover, featuring series stars Alexandra Park (Princess Eleanor) and Jake Maskall (King Cyrus), along with director James Lafferty to discuss the second season and tease what’s to come. The post-show has been successful on E!’s digital platforms.

Shawn Mendes will perform at the People’s Choice Awards, where he’s nominated as 2016 Favorite Breakout Music Artist. The event airs on CBS live from the Microsoft Theatre in LA on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 9p. Mendes is the first announced performer for the show, which will be hosted by Jane Lynch.

The fifth season of CMT series Party Down South, originally scheduled to premiere Thursday, January 7, will now premiere Thursday, January 28 at 9p.

NEW SERIES

TLC will premiere new series Skin Tight on Wednesday, January 6 at 10p, following 12 Americans who’ve undergone massive weight loss and are ready to undergo skin-removal surgery. The debut follows the season four premiere of My 600-Lb Life at 9p, which features drastically overweight men and women who opt to undergo gastric bypass surgery. Both series are produced by Megalomedia.

Those Who Can’t, truTV’s first scripted series, will premiere Thursday, February 11 at 10:30p. Set in Denver, the comedy series follows three frustrated high school teachers who at times seem as dysfunctional as their students.

RETURNING SHOWS

HBO will air a third and final season of drama The Leftovers, the network said yesterday. The series was created by Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Tom Perrotta, and is produced by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The new season of Finding Bigfoot returns Sunday, January 3, at 9p with a two-hour premiere on Animal Planet as the curious crypto-zoological team sets foot in new locations with modern technologies to progress the search.

Investigation Discovery will debut the sophomore season of original series Vanity Fair Confidential on Monday, January 4, at 9p. Created by Emmy-winning True Entertainment in partnership with Conde Nast Entertainment, new stories will include a first-hand account from Beverly Johnson and others about Bill Cosby, Robert Sam Anson’s look into the murder of Tupac Shakur, and Clara Bingham’s expose on accusations of sexual misconduct at the United States Air Force Academy.

Animal Planet renewed Pit Bulls & Parolees for season eight, with 10 new episodes arriving in 2016. In the meantime, the series’ 100th episode airs Saturday, January 2 at 10p, followed by an after-show hosted by Fox Sports TV personality and pit bull advocate Jay Glazer.

The clock is ticking. Choices made in the first 72 hours of any survival situation are the most critical, and Discovery series Dual Survival, returning January 13 at 9p, features a new group of survivalists ready to tackle tough terrains and demonstrate how to make it out alive – hopefully within the first 72 hours.

Michael Symon hits the road again on Friday, January 15 at 9p to sample the best of American classic vittles in the new season of Food Network’s Burgers, Brew & ‘Que. Symon’s journey this time around takes him to locales including Austin, TX, New Orleans and Brooklyn.

The 30th anniversary season of American Masters arrives on PBS beginning Friday, January 29 at 9p. Featured artists this season include Mike Nichols, B.B. King, Carole King, Fats Domino, Loretta Lynn, Janis Joplin and The Highwaymen.

Yesterday, the same day as the season three finale, Comedy Central picked up a fourth season of Nathan Fielder-starring Nathan For You. Third season ratings were up nearly 20 percent among M18-24 and full-ep streams on the Comedy Central app were up 92 percent, according to the network.
