IN THE NEWS

On Friday, Univision asked the court to dismiss GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s $500 million lawsuit that claims the network unjustly terminated a five-year, $13.5 million deal to broadcast the Miss USA pageant. Univision dropped the show last summer, after Trump made derogatory comments about immigrants in a June 16 speech announcing his candidacy. In the motion, Univision noted that "through his diatribe, Trump destroyed the value of those broadcast rights, and neither Trump nor Miss Universe did anything to repair the damage in the aftermath of his speech. The widespread outrage elicited by Trump’s offensive comments was especially acute for Univision’s sponsors and predominantly Hispanic viewers, who made clear that they would not patronize a business connected with Trump."

Viewers who missed The Wiz Live! will still be able to ease on down the road. With the special garnering 11.5 million viewers  over 2 million more than last year’s presentation of Peter Pan Live!  NBC has already scheduled an encore. The musical will re-air on Saturday, December 19 at 8p.

Might The L Word be the next TV series to get a reboot? Ilene Chaiken, who created the drama and is now showrunner on Fox’s Empire, told EW Radio on Friday that she’s open to resurrecting the show. “I would love to revisit The L Word,” Chaiken announced during The Editor’s Hour on Sirius XM radio. “We talk about it from time to time. I talk about it with some of my colleagues who were in the cast who would love to reboot it. I don’t know when. I’m busy and most of them are too, but I do still think that it’s a viable world in which to tell stories, and those characters are still beloved as far as I can tell.”
