IN THE NEWS

NATPE president and CEO Rod Perth said this year’s market, taking place January 19-21, will be kicking up more sand in Miami Beach. “With all of our most important numbers tracking ahead of last year’s capacity turnout, we have moved to substantially increase our physical space in 2016 by expanding to the Eden Roc next door to the Fontainebleau,” said Perth on Wednesday.“The increase in exhibition sales and expanded events reflects the tremendous growth we are seeing throughout the conference.” NATPE Reality is expanding from one day to two, with a luncheon event honoring the shows that “made noise”; Howie Mandel is back as host. Check out the list of finalists here.

As the FCC reviews the guidelines governing retrans talks, the National Cable Telecommunications Association is pushing for rules prohibiting broadcasters from blocking access to online content during blackouts. “The targeted blocking of a broadcaster’s online services to any of a cable operator’s broadband customers as a negotiating tactic in order to pressure the operator to accept the broadcaster’s terms and conditions for retransmission consent should be deemed to violate the duty to negotiate in good faith,” contends the cable trade group.

AT&T plans to gradually erase the DirecTV name, according to an internal notice obtained by DLSReports. AT&T, which acquired DirecTV earlier this year, plans to “transition all TV product names to AT&T Entertainment to symbolize our move to a single entertainment portfolio,” says the memo. The change begins in January, with the launch of the company’s next-generation TV platform.

Univision Digital has launched a new digital platform and YouTube channel aimed at multicultural, Spanish-speaking millennials. Udisea, which also lives natively across social media channels, offers premium short-form video content. “Hispanics and multicultural millennials over-index in the consumption of digital, mobile, and social content, and our research shows that more than half of Univision users are going online to view videos that are different from what they see on TV,” said Isaac Lee, chief news and digital officer for Univision Communications and CEO of Fusion. UCI’s portfolio of digital properties targeting multicultural millennials also includes Fusion, El Rey, Flama and The Root.

Poker Central struck a long-term distribution agreement with National Cable Television Cooperative, including the 24/7 linear feed and a suite of TVE and VOD rights. “Poker Central’s unique content offering and value proposition is being well received by operators,” Sid Eshleman, chief distribution officer, tells Cynopsis. “Our deal with NCTC supports our confidence in the brand.” Launched October 1, Poker Central targets a young, male audience with a mix of tournaments, instructional programs and biographies.
