IN THE NEWS

The gift that keeps on giving: NBC’s telecast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade drew a 12.6 household rating in metered markets, the number one broadcast entertainment rating for the fall. That’s down 1 percent versus last year, but up 1 percent among A18-49 with 7.0/30.

ESPN lost 7 million subscribers in the last two years, according to a Form 10-K filing posted in Wednesday. Still Disney’s most profitable channel, the sports net dipped  to 92 million subs. Disney Channel and domestic Disney XD lost four million subs each in two years, while ABC Family poised to re-launch as Freeform in January  lost 5 million. “The growth in the number of networks distributed by MVPDs has resulted in increased competitive pressures for advertising revenues for our broadcast and cable networks,” notes the report. “The Company’s cable networks also face competition from other cable networks for carriage by MVPDs.”

With younger audiences “watching more online and watching less linear TV,” the BBC Trust has decided to replace youth linear channel BBC Three with an online platform by February 2016. “We have lots of new content coming in 2016 and exciting new ways of delivering it in development,” said BBC controller Damian Kavanagh.

Meredith Corp. is planning to offer a revised deal that would seal its pact with Media General, currently threatened by a rival offer for MG from Nexstar Broadcasting Group, reports the NY Post. According to the paper, a deal could be structured in which Media General is the acquirer but Meredith would kick in cash for Media General shareholders.

Dateline NBC correspondent Keith Morrison will also host ID’s true crime focused Dateline on ID and Front Page specials, starting in January. “For many viewers, Keith is synonymous with Dateline,” said Sharon Scott, president and GM of Peacock Productions, producer of the Front Page “instamentaries.” “His wide-ranging expertise in the true crime genre makes him the perfect host for the episodes.” Said Discovery group president Henry Schleiff, “Keith will bring his distinctive newsmagazine flair and reputation as a trusted news source to tell these stories.”

TiVo is reporting 418,000 additional subscribers through cable operators on 3Q15, with 5.5 million customers globally, 24 percent growth over the same period last year.

Christmas Cookie: Apparel, accessories and jewelry inspired by Fox hit Empire is available at Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products online shopping destination http://EmpireFoxShop.com.
