Personal finance advisor Suze Orman is leaving CNBC after 14 years to develop a syndicated talk show. Suze Orman’s Money Wars, from Warner Bros. Telepictures, will focus on families and friends whose financial disputes are disrupting their lives. The final new episode of The Suze Orman Show is set for March 28. “I want to personally thank Suze for her friendship and her incredible contributions to CNBC,” wrote CNBC president Mark Hoffman in a note to staff Tuesday. Orman’s show will have had the longest run in the news net’s history.

IN THE NEWS

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, the first documentary to be made with the cooperation of the musician’s family, will premiere on HBO in 2015. Director Brett Morgen has been working on the film since 2007; Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain is an exec producer. HBO Documentary Films and Universal Pictures International Entertainment Content Group are co-producing. Cobain died in 1994 at age 27.

George Eads, the only original CSI cast member who has remained on the show all 15 seasons, won’t be making it to 16 if the procedural gets renewed. TVGuide.com reports the actor’s character, Nick Stokes, will be written out at the end of the season. Though Eads took a leave last season after an altercation with a writer on the series, TVGuide describes the parting as amicable.

ABC gave a full season order for Cristela, joining freshman comedy survivor Black-ish. The 20th Century Fox Television series premiered to a 1.3 among A18-49 and hasn’t dipped below 1.0 in the demo Fridays at 8:30p.

Unaired eps of Selfie and Manhattan Love Story, Tuesday comedies canceled by ABC, have landed Hulu. The first Selfie is available now for Hulu Plus members; remaining five shows will be released one a week. Love Story begins streaming next week.

Country star Garth Brooks canceled appearances to plug his new album on shows including The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Today, in the wake of the Ferguson grand jury decision that prompted national protests. “We landed in NY last night to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation,” posted the singer on Facebook. “To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong, seemed distasteful to me…I will gladly reschedule any or all appearances the networks will allow.”

Telemundo’s El Senor de los Cielos was the first to win an Emmy in new category Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program at the International Emmy Awards, held Monday night. Other winners include The Exhibition (Arts Programming), Stephen Dillane (Best Performance by an Actor), Bianca Krijgsman (Best Performance by an Actress), What If? 2 (Comedy), Frihet bakom galler (No Burqas Behind Bars, Documentary), Utopia (Drama Series), Educating Yorkshire (Non-Scripted Entertainment), Precious Pearl (Telenovela), and Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter (Generation War, TV Movie/Mini-Series).

Reelz is now streaming live on DirecTV Everywhere. Linear feed gives fans access to the net’s original series including TMZ Hollywood Sports, Hollywood Scandals and Celebrity Legacies.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will star in limited series Big Little Lies, a project written by David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) based on the bestseller by Liane Moriarty. Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard and Kidman’s Blossom Films optioned the film and TV rights with the intention to star and produce.

Syfy picked up six-part The Bazillion Dollar Club, a docu-series following high-tech innovators, to premiere in 2015. “The show is important to Syfy’s unscripted strategy to engage fans with entertaining and informative real-world drama,” said net president Dave Howe.

Endemol struck a first-look development and distribution deal with UK’s Amber Television. Endemol and Amber will jointly develop and finance scripted programs for the UK, U.S. and international markets.

Canada’s Big Coat Productions is going to the people to find the next big reality show. Its “What’s the Big Idea?!” campaign, launching December 1, will field pitches from regular viewers, as well as people in the entertainment business in Canada and college students hoping to break into the industry. (Dancing with Real Housewives in Alaska, anyone?)

E! ordered a pilot for Comments Section, exec produced by The Soup host Joel McHale and starring comedian Michael Kosta, who will co-exec produce. McHale is continuing on Community, relocated from NBC to Yahoo.

COMING UP

They might not be allowed to stay up to watch it, but the competitors on Lifetime docu-series Child Genius could land a $100,000 college fund if they win it. The show, following gifted children and their hovering parents as they prepare for a national intelligence competition, premieres Tuesday, January 6 at 10p, after the season five bow of Dance Moms.

NBC’s The Making of Peter Pan Live!, a one-hour special from NBC News’ Peacock Productions airing tonight at 8p, offers a three-month countdown of behind-the-scenes happenings as the musical pulls together. Peter and Tinkerbell take flight Thursday, December 4 at 8p.

HGTV franchise House Hunters takes an irreverent turn with two new series. House Hunters Pop’d boasts a pop up screen with cheeky observations related to the action on air, starting Friday, November 28 at 11p. Tiny House Hunters, about home buyers on the lookout for small spaces, premieres December 15-19 at 10p. The shows are “giving our most popular franchise a fun spin,” said Allison Page, general manager, HGTV and DIY. “No one knows better how to slice, dice and expand the House Hunters concept than we do.”

Rise of the Killer Virus premieres on Smithsonian Channel on World AIDS Day, Monday, December 1 at 8p. The special investigates the origins of the global epidemic, including the discovery of a full-blown outbreak in the 1960s.

Comedic dating game Baggage on the Road, spun off from Baggage with that show’s host Jerry Springer, travels to Texas, Florida, Louisiana and Connecticut as contestants looking for love reveal embarrassing secrets. Launch date for GSN newcomer from Wilshire Studios: January 7 at 9p.

MTV has two specials set for the first week of December. On Tuesday, December 2 at 10p, True Life Presents: Crazy Young Love follows the highs and lows of couples obsessively in love; the next night at 11p, Growing Up Greek explores what it’s like to be raised Greek in a Florida community.

El Rey is running a Starsky & Hutch “Huggy Bearathon” from Saturday, December 6 at 6p through Sunday, December 7 at 3a, encoring from 10a-8p on Sunday.

December hasn’t yet begun, but it’s definitely holiday season over at Hallmark Channel, which is decking its halls with a series of original Christmas-themed movie premieres. RETURNING SERIES

The cast of competitors for the upcoming seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Logo TV will be announced live during the 2014 New Now Next Awards on Sunday, December 7 at 8p. “I’ve devoted my life to the art of drag. But nothing could have prepared me for this season’s queens,” said exec producer RuPaul. “They are truly twisted, sickening, and out of control.” Countdown special RuPaul’s Drag Race: 15 Fan Favorite Queens of All Time premieres ahead of the awards, at 7:30p.

Cooking starts off 2015 with January launches for four shows. Bobby Flay is back for Brunch@Bobby’s on Saturday, January 3 at 12p. The next day it’s Emeril Lagasse warming things up with Emeril’s Florida at 2:30p. Wednesday, January 7 at 9p has Debi Mazar and Gabriele Corcos back for Extra Virgin, and Matt Basile brings up the rear, exploring streetside fare in Rebel Without a Kitchen, premiering Tuesday, January 27 at 10p.

Season two of comedy Sirens launches Tuesday, January 27 at 10p on USA. The next night, drama Suits returns at 10p to finish up the six eps left in season four. Catch-up episodes of Sirens run Sunday, January 25 from 12-4a; seasons 1-3 of Suits, already renewed for a fifth go-round, are available on Amazon Prime, with season four on VOD.

ID’s Most Evil returns with a new format Sunday, December 7 at 10p, as forensic psychologist Dr. Kris Mohandie dissects killers’ motives, methods and thought processes, using archival and first-person interviews. The series’ popular scale, classifying subjects from impulse criminals to psychopathic murderers, remains.

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

Watch Destination America tonight, and you might take a pass on turkey tomorrow. “As Americans head into this Thanksgiving, Destination America wants to warn you of impending danger,” Marc Etkind, general manager of DA, warns Cynopsis. “Turkeys may look delicious but they are ferocious!” Holiday special When Turkeys Attack explains all, tonight at 10p.

Cozi TV kicks off month-long Cozi Holidozi on Friday, November 28, featuring holiday-themed eps of shows like Hart to Hart, Starsky & Hutch and Knight Rider, as well as classic films including Holiday Inn (1942) and Scrooge (1935). Check local listings.

Hallmark original movie Christmas Under Wraps, one of the net’s “12 New Movies of Christmas,” makes its debut Saturday, November 29 at 8p. On Sunday, One Christmas Eve debuts at 8p, the first “Hallmark Hall of Fame” premiere presentation on the net since the franchise’s move to cable.

Up original movie Marry US for Christmas premieres Sunday, December 7 at 7p. The sequel to last year’s Marry Me for Christmas reunites Victoria Rowell with her former Young and Restless castmate, Kristoff St. John.

CASTING

Justin Chatwin (Shameless), James Frain (Intruders), Ksenia Solo (Black Swan), Kyra Harper (Warehouse 13) and Earl Pastko (Murdoch Mysteries) have joined the season three cast of BBC America’s Orphan Black. Clone drama is shooting in Toronto through March, for a return next year.

Limited series Crossbones may not have been home run for NBC last summer, but Sierra/Engine found numerous buyers overseas eager for a swing at the pirate drama. Deals include Tele München Gruppe in Germany, Turner International and Polar Star in Latin America, Icon in Australia, SKY in New Zealand, Sohu in China, Tohokushinsha in Japan, SBS Broadcasting and Dutch Filmworks in Benelux, Skai TV in Greece, MTG in Scandinavia, Yes DBS Satellite Services in Israel, MNET in Africa, Digiturk in Turkey, Zon Lusomundo in Portugal, IcFlix in the Middle East, VMMA in Belgium, Telemundo in Puerto Rico and Daro in Central Eastern Europe.

Twitter is diving deeper into e-commerce with “Twitter Offers,” a feature it started testing Tuesday that allows brands to create promotions users can add to their credit or debit cards, then redeem in real time by using the card at the store. Advertisers will be able to attribute redemption directly to their campaigns on Twitter, says the company in a blog, measuring ROI even when redemption happens offline.

RATINGS

Showtime’s Homeland had its best time period ratings of the season, with 1.77 million viewers at 9p (up seven percent versus last week) and a season high 2.32 million viewers for the night, up 11 percent. The Affair followed with its highest rated episode of the season with 877,000 viewers, up 13 percent week to week and up 73 percent versus the series premiere. For the night, Affair drew a season high of 1.12 million, up 14 percent versus last week’s total night (985,000) and 39 percent above the series premiere night (809,000).

Discovery’s Gold Rush was the #1 program in all of television on Friday night among M18-49 delivery for the 2nd consecutive week, and the number one program on cable on Friday night among HH (2.73), P25-54 (1.9), M25-54 (2.77), P18-49 (1.55), M18-49, (2.2) P2+ (3.8 million viewers) delivery. At 10p, Edge of Alaska was Friday night’s number one non-sports cable program among M25-54 (1.19) delivery.

Syndie newcomer Hot Bench had a 13 percent week to week ratings lift, to 1.7 the week ending November 16, a 31 percent jump from its premiere.

Recently canceled Queen Latifah was up 9 percent versus last week, hitting a season high 1.2. Other talkers hitting season highs the week ending November 16: Dr. Phil, up 3 percent to 3.5; Ellen, up 4 percent to 2.9 and Maury, up 5 percent to 2.1.

Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court reports a series high among Households the week of November 10, delivering a 1.4 national HH rating.

Game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy also reached season highs. Wheel tied Judge Judy for first place in first-run syndication with 7.4, and Jeopardy ratings, driven by the first week of its Tournament of Champions, hit 7.0.

The premiere of Party Down South 2 and holiday special Drunksgiving delivered a combined 1.3 million total viewers in Live+3 for CMT. Party scored 748,000 total viewers and 505,000 among A18-49 with 77 percent playback growth.

Food Network posted a .5 rating among A25-54 on Saturday night, up 25 percent versus its year-ago number. Sunday night brought the net a .6 rating among A25-54, up 50 percent, averaging 1.3 million total viewers and ranking 5th for the night among all cable.

Hallmark’s A Royal Christmas averaged 4.5 million total viewers on Saturday, making it the second most-watched telecast in the net’s history among HHs and total viewers. The premiere of The Christmas Shepherd on Sunday averaged 4.2 million total viewers.

NBC topped 8p with 2.7/8 for The Voice, followed by 2.3/7 for Fox’s Gotham and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. The second hour of The Voice and ABC’s Dancing tied at 9p with 2.6/7.
