The Real Housewives of Atlanta cleaned up for Bravo on Sunday. The reality series delivered the net’s highest-rated season premiere ever, with over 3.8 million total viewers and over 2.2 million P18-49, according to Nielsen. The season seven starter was up 23 percent in viewers and 24 percent in the demo versus last year, and made Bravo the top cable network during the 8p hour among all key demos.

IN THE NEWS

Two months after a cliffhanger that left a lead character’s life hanging in the balance, USA picked up season three of Graceland. The spy drama from creator Jeff Eastin delivered an average 2.6 million total viewers and 1.25 among A18-49 in Live+7.

TNT canceled Sony Pictures Television legal dramedy Franklin & Bash. The season four finale drew 975,000 viewers, a dip from the 1.2 million it drew for the season premiere.

CNN is going off the air in Russia beginning next year. “Turner International is assessing its distribution options for CNN in Russia in light of recent changes in Russian media legislation,” said the company. “We are bringing our existing distribution relationships to an end while we do that. We hope to re-enter the market in due course.” CNN began broadcasting in Russia in the early 1990s.

The week after Nat Geo WILD’s live stream coverage of a safari in Africa for Safari Live captured rare footage of wild dogs bringing down a pregnant impala (warning: not for the faint of heart), the net announced it will broadcast the show beginning Saturday, November 29 at 9a, through Sunday, December 7. NatGeo will simulcast coverage beginning Monday, December 1 at 9a for one week. Safari Live is available at WILDSafariLive.com beginning at 9a and 11p until January 31.

Starz launched Starz Play and Encore Play on Chromecast from Google. The TV Everywhere services bowed on Xbox One and Xbox 360 within the past year.

Also now available on Google Chromecast streaming devices: Showtime Anytime, with hundreds of hours of programming for on demand viewing, plus live broadcasts of East and West Coast feeds.

Kate Del Castillo returns to Telemundo for a new series, Duenos del Paraiso (Owners of Paradise), currently shooting in Miami and Chile and slated to debut in early 2015. No surprise the net wooed her back – Del Castillo starred in La Reina Del Sur (Queen of the South), which became the highest rated program in Telemundo history, averaging 4.2 million total viewers and over 2.8 million A18-49.

The Television Academy announced the newly-elected members to the Board of Governors. Serving a first, two-year term: Ted Biaselli, Jill Daniels, Peter Golden, CSA, Tammy Golihew, Beatriz Gomez, Terry Ann Gordon, Norman Leavitt, Sam Linsky, Janet Carol Norton, Phlip Segal and Terence Winter.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Sneaky Pete, written and exec produced by Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and House creator David Shore, landed a production commitment from CBS. The project from Sony Pictures Television focuses on a con man hiding from the mob.

A&E struck an unscripted development and production deal with Donnie Wahlberg (Wahlburgers) and wife Jenny McCarthy. Docu-series Donnie Loves Jenny, following the newlyweds as they adjust to married life, will be the first project under the deal; show launches in 2015 with a one-hour wedding premiere. Wahlburgers production company 44 Blue will produce, in association with D&J Productions.

Web-based platform Seven Seas Music launched with sounds from over 40 countries available for licensing. Users can scroll over an interactive map to select a region; tracks are secured from artists directly, as well as record labels.

Cineflix announced the start of production on season 15 of Mayday, airing on National Geographic Channel internationally and Discovery and Canal D in Canada.

COMING UP

Identical twins go head to head for a grand prize of $222,222.22 in a VH1 reality show set for summer 2015. Twinning, from Lighthearted Entertainment (house of Dating Naked), promises double the meltdowns and double the hookups. It’s “a crazy concept and we are all the way in,” said Susan Levison, EVP of original programming and production for the net. “This will be a competition series like no other.”

A Very Grammy Christmas added Mary J. Blige to the lineup of artists performing holiday songs and pop hits Friday, December 5 at 9p on CBS. LL Cool J hosts the one-hour special.

Who sent Paul Revere on his ride to warn colonial forces that the British were coming? Forgotten founding father Joseph Warren is among those whose stories are chronicled in American Heroes Channel miniseries The American Revolution, airing Monday, December 15 at 9p and 10p and Tuesday, December 16 at 9p.

Travel Channel’s new original series Expedition Unknown premieres Thursday, January 8 with a two-hour ep at 9p investigating the disappearance of aviator Amelia Earhart. Search for clues begins in Papua New Guinea.

The Party Down South crew count their blessings, and pound shots, on CMT’s Drunksgiving Special, premiering Wednesday, November 19 at 9p. The following night, a new gang of rowdies is on hand for the launch of Party Down South 2 at 9p.

Ree Drummond shows how to deck the halls, western style on The Pioneer Woman Cowboy Christmas. Special airs on Food Network Saturday, December 6 at 8p, followed by the premiere of Outrageous Christmas (world’s largest gingerbread village! 1000-pound chocolate Santa!) at 9p.

NBA champ LeBron James joins HGTV’s Rehab Addict, Nicole Curtis, to renovate a home in James’ hometown of Akron, OH with the help of family, friends and the LeBron James Family Foundation. First of six eps airs Thursday, November 29 at 9p, as Curtis, James and volunteers attack the kitchen.

Genter Media announces the clearance of Christmas special Joy to the World in 95 percent of the U.S., including ABC/CBS/NBC O&O, Hearst, Lin, Gannett, Gray, Raycom and Scripps Howard.

ADVERTISING AND BRANDS

Hyundai signed on as launch sponsor of IFC’s Comedy Crib, its new online home for short-form comedy. Content includes shows from the net’s comedians, as well as acquired series through partnerships with AboveAverage and UCB Comedy.

INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS

Ratings for Rising Star, the format that was a smash in Israel but had disappointing results on ABC this summer (1.06 among A18-49 and 4.08 million viewers), continue to be a mixed bag. While the interactive singing competition format opened strong in Hungary, France’s M6 cut its season by two episodes because it couldn’t attract “a sufficiently large audience.” UK’s ITV canceled its version before production began.

UK’s Woodcut Media is in production for Defenders of the Sky  The Story of the Airfield (wt) for A+E Networks, slated for delivery in early 2015. The series will air in the UK on H2.

Distribution360 has entered a first look deal with Canada’s RTR Media, covering RTR’s development slate for digital and TV lifestyle properties. The agreement“supports our strategic vision of producing content for multiple platforms,” said RTR CEO and exec producer Kit Redmond. “D360’s mandate is to find new digital opportunities for producers and work with them in a true partnership that offers marketing knowledge and insight. We look forward to working with a company that sees the value in this!”

RATINGS

CBS won its seventh consecutive week in viewers, starting the season for the first time in eight years with the top six dramas and top five comedies in Nielsen Live+SD. The week ending November 9, the net averaged 9.3 million viewers, versus 7.8 million for NBC, 8.4 million for ABC and 4.4 million for Fox.

ABC’s Dancing with the Stars beat NBC’s The Voice on Monday for the fourth consecutive week in total viewers, by a best-yet 2.0 million (13.4 million versus 11.4 million). The Voice again commanded the A18-49 demo, 3.2/9 to 2.0/6.

Food Network ranked fifth among cable on Sunday night, fueled by Holiday Baking Championship, premiering at 9p to a .7 rating A25-54, up 17 percent versus year-ago, followed by Cutthroat Kitchen with a .6 rating at 10p, up 50 percent in the demo versus last year.

Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court hit a series high 1.3 national rating the week of October 27, reporting it is up across all key demographics by as much as 39 percent.

The week ending November 2, syndie newcomer Hot Bench got a 7 percent bump from the week prior, to a series-best 1.6. Among W25-54, Bench was up 13 percent, to .9. Also growing week to week: rookie Meredith Vieira, up 9 percent to 1.2. In total audience, Bench drew a record high 2.185 million average viewers; Meredith averaged 1.496 million.

Last Monday’s telecast of American Dad! on TBS has grew to1.5 million viewers in Live+3, with 1.0 million A18-49 and 694,000 A18-34. Season-to-date, Dad is averaging a reach of 3.1 million viewers per episode for its premieres on TBS, encores on Adult Swim and multi-platform plays.

Estrella TV was third among Hispanic nets on Thursday with music awards show Premios de la Radio, averaging 362,000 and 396,000 impressions, respectively, among A18-49 and A25-54, and 649,000 among P2+.

With mid-term elections driving tune-in, NBC Nightly News regained the news demo crown after ceding it for eleven weeks to ABC World News Tonight. The net was also first in viewers.

Midterm elections were also good for cable news. Fox News was the most-watched cable net for total day (1.4 million viewers) the week of November 3, and second in primetime (2.5 million) after ESPN.

Season three of HBO’s The Newsroom premiered to a 1.2 million on Sunday, down from 2.2 million for its season two opener, opposite AMC juggernaut Walking Dead. The return of Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback after nine years drew an even softer 300,000.

Discovery Networks International has realigned its European operations into three business clusters, with increased responsibilities for three execs: Dee Forbes is President and Managing Director of Discovery Networks Northern Europe; Kasia Kieli is President and Managing Director of Discovery Networks Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Marinella Soldi heads Discovery Networks Southern Europe as Managing Director.
