Destination America isn’t even going to try to rouse you from your turkey stupor on Thanksgiving. The net is airing Railroad Alaska: Real Time Ride, with cameras attached to a train for a five-hour, real-time ride along Alaska’s 500-mile railroad, starting at 9a. Then they’re going to repeat it. And if that sounds dull, well, yeah. “Most networks compete to produce the most exciting show, which we already accomplished with our first, ever, live televised exorcism last month,” said Henry Schleiff, group president at Discovery. “We also want to own the other end of the spectrum, providing viewers with the single most boring program ever to appear on television during Thanksgiving… even more boring than the Detroit Lions football game.”

The 14th annual National Dog Show Presented by Purina airs at noon on Thanksgiving on NBC, following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. John O’Hurley (Devious Maids) returns as host.

The Stars Wars score gets the full symphony treatment at the American Music Awards, airing Sunday, November 22 at 8p on ABC. Pentatonix will do the honors, at a ceremony hosted by Jennifer Lopez.

NEW SERIES

Title of the week goes to Syfy’s The Internet Ruined My Life. The net ordered six episodes of the unscripted series about social media mishaps, from Atomic Entertainment Group and Left/Right Productions, slated to premiere in early 2016. “This spring we noticed that ‘the internet’ smoke monster was attacking more people every week, often unfairly – leaving behind lost friends, lost jobs, and ruined lives,” exec producer from Atomic Jerry Kolber tells Cynopsis.“You will not believe how insane these true stories of internet mob justice are – we’ve got snipers, identify theft, death threats, leaked nude photos, even the Department of Homeland Security.” Word of caution, adds Kolber: “Think before you hit ‘post’ or you’ll end up on our show!”

The fishbowl world of celebrity dating gets a look-see in E!’s Famously Single, arriving in 2016. Docuseries plops eight romantically challenged celebs in an LA loft with experts who help them learn to find love.

Who needs Match.com when you have your mother? That’s the premise behind TLC’s Married by Mom and Dad, debuting Sunday, December 13 at 10p. The reality show follows parents as they vet their children’s romantic prospects, with the ultimate goal of walking them down the aisle.

Betty? Bob? Which TV icon would you most want to sit next to at a dinner party? Let us know in the new Cynopsis poll.

RETURNING SERIES

Roseanne Barr is back and ID’s still got her. The comedian returns for season two as host of Momsters: When Moms Go Bad on Black Friday, November 27 at 10p. Momsters ranked as ID’s number one series in 4Q15.

FX ordered a sixth round of American Horror Story. “AHS has pioneered a new television form as well as becoming FX’s highest rated show – while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity,” said FX Networks CEO John Landgraf. Through its first four episodes, AHS: Hotel, airing Wednesdays at 10p, is up 7 percent versus last year’s Freak Show among A18-49, and up 1 percent in total viewers.

DIGITAL DOINGS

FUN OF YOUR BUSINESS

Last week we asked our readers to tell us, What was the best industry event, party or function that you went to?

Here is what your colleagues had to say…

The Departed premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in NYC. The highlight was meeting Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson!!! – Anderson Angad, Manager, Integrated Investment, Universal McCann

NCC client appreciation party at the Beverly Hills Hotel, circa 2000 (overnight stay included) –  Tressa Adams, Associate Director, Strategy, OMD

I was lucky enough to have attended the NBC Season Premiere party in 1994, met and took a picture with George Clooney, coming to ER – and the entire cast of Friends was introduced. We did NOT KNOW WHO they were, at the time. Jerry Seinfeld was the host of the event at Radio City Music Hall and the mountain of shrimp that was served was over 3 feet high inside a fountain – BEST PARTY to have met so many stars in one night. – Jayne McMahon, Manager Media Planning/Buying, Dealer Online Marketing

The Oscars, 2000. I was an assistant at Sony and I won tickets as part of a raffle. I wore my prom dress from 1995 – it was black lace (oy). And the photographers kept yelling at me to get out of the way on the way in! – Tamaya Petteway, SVP, Brand Partnerships, Endemol Shine North America

Next week’s question is… "What was your funniest Thanksgiving snafu?"

Join in and don’t miss out on all of the fun! Send your response to next week’s question today to FOYB.Cynopsis@gmail.com.
