IN THE NEWS

Fox ordered two more seasons of The Simpsons – numbers 29 and 30 – which will raise the total number of episodes to 669, the most ever for a primetime scripted show. “This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group. Current leader Gunsmoke has 635 episodes. The Simpsons is currently in production for its 28th season.

ABC gave a full season order to comedy American Housewife. The freshman is racking up 7.7 million viewers and a 2.4/8 rating among A18-49 on Tuesdays, an improvement year over year of 2.1 million viewers and 9 percent in the demo. ABC gave a 3-episode back order to The Real O’Neals, for a total of 16.

Helming the Academy Awards telecast is a major job, but two first-timers, Oscar-nominated producer Michael De Luca (Captain Phillips) and Pearl Street Films president Jennifer Todd (Jason Bourne) are ready to take it on. “In our meetings, they shared an early vision for the show that is inspired and in keeping with the films they’ve produced: entertaining, unexpected and of the highest caliber

,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. Show goes on Sunday, February 26 on ABC.

China’s Dalian Wanda Group acquired a 100 percent stake in Dick Clark Productions, its first foray into TV production. The $1 billion deal is “a big step forward in expanding Wanda’s map in the entertainment industry,” said the company. DCP produces high profile events including the Golden Globe Awards, the American Music Awards and New Years Rockin’ Eve.

The brightest in online video content, advertising and talent were honored at the 4th Annual Cynopsis Model D Awards on Friday. Digital industry movers and shakers gathered at NYC’s Kipps Bay space Apella, overlooking the East River, for a sold-out event that also included a celebration of the innovative execs that made our “It List.” People Now’s Jeremy Parson was a quick-witted host; guest presenters included Chris Simms

, Hannah Rad and Grace Randolph. For the list of winners and honorable mentions, go here.

SAG-AFTRA said it is entering into arbitration on behalf of the Being Mary Jane cast. “BET and Breakdown Productions continue to abuse the option pickup process and mask which season they are shooting in order to avoid paying contractually agreed upon raises,” said the union. Series star Gabrielle Union filed a suit against BET last month claiming the network was combining seasons 4 and 5 into a 20-episode season, despite an agreement that seasons wouldn’t exceed 13 episodes. Responded BET to the SAG-AFTRA move, “The clear contract language and the bargaining history do not support SAG-AFTRA’s theory. We believe SAG-AFTRA and Ms. Union are playing this out in the media as they will not be able to prove in arbitration or court of law.”

ABC News took swift action after CNN reported that a yellow crime scene tape seen in a Good Morning America story “was placed there by ABC News for the purpose of its inclusion in the shot.” The apparent staging of the shot “is completely unacceptable and fails to meet the standards of ABC News,” said the division’s VP of communications, Julie Townsend. “As soon as it was brought to our attention, we decided to take the producer out of the field, and we’re investigating further.”

Netflix, which made its Television Critics Association event debut in 2013, is skipping the winter press tour, the TCA announced on Friday. The streaming service had been expected to present on opening day, January 5. Starz has also withdrawn this time around. TCA president Amber Dowling pointed to a crowded January schedule, including the presidential inauguration, as a factor.

Fox News anchor Bret Baier apologized on air Friday for inaccurate reporting earlier in the week, when he said that sources “with intimate knowledge of the FBI investigation” of the Clinton Foundation indicated an indictment was likely. Baier characterized the remark on Thursday as “inartful,” but amended the next day, “That wasn’t just ‘inartful,’ it was a mistake and for that I’m sorry.”

The upcoming season 7 of Comedy Central’s Workaholics will be its last, reports Deadline. Said series stars Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and fellow co-creator Kyle Newacheck

, “It was an incredible run but we’ve decided to end on a HIGH note. Get it?”

Freeform is holding a special screening of the season two premiere of Shadowhunters and the first episode of new original series Beyond in a fan’s hometown this December, cast members included. Viewers can vote on where the screening will take place on the show’s web sites and on Twitter. Shadowhunters returns Monday, January 2 at 8p, followed by Beyond at 9p.

Hillary Clinton is the winner of Nickelodeon’s “Kids Pick the President” online vote, with 53 percent of the tally versus 36 percent for Donald Trump and 11 percent for Gary Johnson. Over 900,000 kids cast a virtual ballot (one vote was tabulated per household device). Since 1988, kids have correctly chosen the next U.S. president in six out of the last seven elections (they chose Kerry over Bush in 2004).
