The award will be presented at the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, January 23.

The chorus of those who find Donald Trump’s planned appearance this weekend on Saturday Night Live no laughing matter is growing. Among new developments, civil rights group Color Of Change sent a petition signed by 30,000 to NBC and SNL execs. Group exec director Rashad Robinson, noted, “By selecting Donald Trump as a host, [SNL] legitimizes Trump’s unapologetic racism and fear-mongering and make the real-world violence he incites against people of color a laughing matter.” The Deport Racism PAC yesterday said it will pay $5,000 to anyone on set on in the audience who voices “Deport racism” or “Trump is a racist” during the live broadcast. So far, NBC continues to stand by its host. The Department of Homeland Security assigned Trump and GOP rival Ben Carson Secret Service details.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Dana Carvey’s unscripted comedy First Impressions got a green light from USA Network. The SNL alum will be the “expert-in-residence,” mentoring contestants on the series, which pits amateur impressionists against each other in a weekly battle of celebrity impression. First Impressions is from Renegade 83 and Gaspin Media. Carvey, Jeff Gaspin, David Garfinkle and Jay Renfroe will exec-produce.

NBC bought ensemble comedy Poog, which centers around a working mother who abandons her attempt to be the perfect parent and bands together with simpatico friends to celebrate their foibles. Project is from writer Meg LeFauve (The Good Dinosaur) and A To Z creator Ben Queen.

Something for the 40somethings. The yet-to-be-titled comedy project from Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky’s Is Or Isn’t Entertainment and Ryan Seacrest Productions got a put pilot commitment from ABC. The story revolves around four female friends of a certain age who try to shake off their feeling of irrelevance by trying for invincibility. Bucatinsky, Kudrow, Ryan Seacrest and RSP’s Nina Wass exec-produce.

CBS is taking Gulfstream Television and Warner Bros. TV drama Mi-Zero (wt), as a script commitment with penalty. Written by Austin Winsberg (Gossip Girl) and Alex Litvak (Predators, The Three Musketeers), the project is a female-empowerment spy show that follows a young American woman who marries the Prince of England and discovers she’s part of a secret society of princesses who use their access to the seats of power to be the best secret agents on the planet.

FX won out for purchase of dark comedy-crime series Caper, which follows the interconnected web of three sets of criminals. Project is from Dutch Southern (Hoof Garrington’s Greatest Hits), writer-director Magnus Martens (Banshee) and Circle of Confusion. Southern will write the pilot; Martens will direct.
