10.23.14
Good morning. It’s Thursday, October 23, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
A blowout Game 1 of the World Series was off pace from 2013 numbers on FOX. Still the contest guided the network to an average of 7.7/13 with 12.8 million viewers, according to Nielsen, and is expected to win the night in primetime in the A18-49 demo. The game ranks as the network’s highest-rated and most-watched prime time broadcast since an edition of American Idol in February. Coverage on FOX Deportes averaged 273,000 total viewers, to rank as the most for a World Series game in Spanish language television history. Together, the game delivered a total average audience of 12.5 million viewers, down from 14.4 million viewers for Game 1 last year, while up compared to Game 1 in 2012 (12.2 million viewers). World Series Game 1 also broke records for FOX Sports GO, reaching a new best day ever for authenticated viewership.

Amid game activity set for this weekend at Wembley Stadium, George Osborne, the British treasury chief, told the Evening Standard that the government will do whatever it can bring a team to the city. The NFL has been playing regular-season games at Wembley Stadium every year since 2007, with three games on the docket this year alone. ”We warmly welcome the chancellor’s strong support for the possibility of an NFL team in London and look forward to welcoming him to a game at Wembley over the next few weeks,” the NFL said in a statement to FOX Sports. ”Our key priority is to continue to build our fan base in the U.K. so that there is strong demand for any future plans in London.”
