MGM Television and Digital chief Mark Burnett is back as executive producer of the People’s Choice Awards 2017, which will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in LA Wednesday, January 18 at 9p on CBS. Voting to determine nominees begins Tuesday, October 25 at www.PeoplesChoice.com.
The NCTA Foundation is providing $325,000 in grants to three DC-area community nonprofits to deliver technology-charged opportunities for personal growth and development, for local families and young people. The foundation of NCTA The Internet & Television Assn. is partnering with BUILD Metro DC, Byte Back and A Wider Circle. The grants signal a strategic shift in how the association aims to have a direct community-based impact. “The explosion in broadband and digital services generated by the companies we represent has been immensely beneficial to the lives of most Americans. We’re working to continue to extend those benefits to even more groups and individuals, and to harness the broadband revolution for the public good,” said Michael Powell, NCTA president/CEO.

More than a year ago Fox News Channel host Harris Faulkner sued Hasbro for $5 million over the company’s toy hamster that bore her name and supposedly her likeness. Yesterday the two parties “settled amicably,” according to a statement that further reads: “Ms. Faulkner took action against Hasbro because it was selling… a plastic toy named Harris Faulkner. The ‘Harris Faulkner’ toy is no longer manufactured or sold by Hasbro. However, since there still may be ‘Harris Faulkner’ toys or packaging with the ‘Harris Faulkner’ name in the stream of commerce, Ms. Faulkner reiterates that she has not endorsed or approved this product.”
In an unusual twist, The Parents Television Council yesterday chimed in with advice for Fox on how to best achieve success with its new series Pitch. The organization, better known for warning advertisers and viewers about what it views as explicit programming, urged Fox to move the sports drama from its current Thursday time slot to a different day and time to “ensure success,” and began reaching out to advertisers to encourage them to support it.
Sunday’s The Irresistible Blueberry Farm ranked as Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ most-watched program ever among HH, and second most-watched among total viewers. Alison Sweeney, who has segued from daytime star (Days of Our Lives) to reality show host (The Biggest Loser) to producer, served as star and exec producer on the project, roles she also filled on the net’s Murder, She Baked franchise and Hallmark Channel‘s Love on the Air. What’s the recipe for success? "The viewers of Hallmark channels, and the network executives, love rom-com movies and so do I," Sweeney tells Cynopsis. "It has been tremendous fun to partner with them, and having the ongoing relationship in which they trust me to produce and star in these projects. I’m particularly proud of The Irresistible Blueberry farm because 18 months ago I was reading the book from which it was adapted and Sunday the characters came to life on television, and viewers loved them too."

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
HBO said yes to an untitled drama it will produce with Keshet International based on the real tragic events involving the disappearance of three teens in Israel two years ago. The network gave a 10-episode order for the series, which will be filmed on location in Israel next summer. Created by Hagai Levi (HBO’s In Treatment, The Affair) and Noah Stollman, it will be primarily directed by Israeli filmmaker Joseph Cedar (Beaufort, Footnote). A co-production of Keshet Studios and HBO, the show will be produced by Movie Plus and distributed internationally by Keshet.
Muse Entertainment (The Kennedys: After Camelot) acquired the rights to Amp’d, the debut novel by two-time Emmy-nominated screenwriter and author Ken Pisani, and will develop it as a half-hour comedy series with Pisani adapting. Amp’d tells the story of Aaron, whose not-very-successful life is derailed after a car accident leads to the amputation of his left arm. Now he has a chance to overcome adversity and become a better man… But he’d rather pop a few Vicodins and smoke a joint.
Z Living is continuing to step up its original programming. The health entertainment net ordered series Popsugar Presents: Conquered and earmarked it for a January premiere. Produced by Popsugar Studios, each half-hour episode will feature people who have conquered obstacles to achieve their goals. "Conquered is a great example of the innovation and creativity to emerge from our partnership with Popsugar, and we’re very excited to share the series’ fresh, moving take on wellness with our viewers,” Z Living’s EVP/head of programming, Tim Krubsack tells Cynopsis.

Fusion’s new docuseries The Traffickers poses this question and more as it dig deep to unearth the fine line between the legitimate market and the black market. Eight-part series, hosted by British journalist and television personality Nelufar Hedayat, premieres Sunday, November 13 at 10p.
Those fiery Total Divas will return to E! for their sixth season on Wednesday, November 16 at 8p.
