Count in one more for the kids tablet market. Techno Source today is releasing the latest in its Kurio line of Android devices for kidsthe Kurio Xtreme. The 7-inch, wifi-enabled Android 4.4 tablet features a thinner and lighter design, faster Intel Atom processor, double the internal memory, Bluetooth technology and 24/7 customer support right from the tablet. It introduces exclusive Kurio Motion body-controlled gaming and comes preloaded with 10 Kurio Motion games and more than $300 worth of free apps and games including Cut the Rope 2, Fruit Ninja, Subway Surfers and Jetpack Joyride. The Xtreme also comes preloaded with two Common Sense Media apps that provide parents with age-based ratings, reviews and advice.

The Simon Fun Lab Tour touches down at 20 malls across the U.S. in October and November. Hosted by Simon and PBS, the immersive experience enables kids and parents to interact with brands including Care Bears, Curious George and Strawberry Shortcake, explore new PBS Kids apps and play games.

Disney is putting some star power behind National Bullying Prevention Month via its new Choose Kindness initiative aimed at ages 6-14. More than 20 personalities from Disney Channel, Disney XD and Radio Disney provide their POV on demonstrating respectful behavior as a virtue of good character. The interstitial messages started airing Sunday, Sept. 28, and will rotate during October. The initiative also includes themed eps of Austin & Ally and Girl Meets World. Today, Radio Disney begins airing PSAs featuring 14 -year-old host Alex Angelo; the PSA will also be featured in video form in the Club Penguin virtual world.

When The Hub Network relaunches as Discovery Family Channel on Oct. 13, Tom Cosgrove will be in the GM seat, guiding the net’s already-strong focus on family viewing. “While the trend is for family members to scatter at home to pursue different interests, we believe television can actually be an inspiration for bringing families together,” said Discovery group president Henry Schleiff, who will oversee the transition and to whom Cosgrove will report. “Our goal for Discovery Family Channel is to curate and program content that will grab entire families.”

PROGRAMMING PICKS

Jake and his crew of kid pirates are crossing the pond in Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book! primetime special, premiering Sunday, Oct. 26 at 6p on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. Disney heritage characters Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and Wendy, John and Michael Darling debut in the music-filled mashup, with Maia Mitchell (Teen Beach Movie) voicing Wendy and performing new original song, "Once Upon A Time." Peter Pan and Tinker Bell will also appear.

Cartoon Network will unleash its first animated miniseries, Over The Garden Wall, on Monday, Nov. 3 at 7p. The 10-ep adventure, the story of two brothers who find themselves lost in the Unknown, will premiere during five consecutive nights. It was created by Patrick McHale (Adventure Time) and features the voices of Elijah Wood, Melanie Lynskey and Collin Dean.

Teenagers, this one’s for you. Season 14 of TeenNick series Degrassi premieres Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 9 p., with four new cast members and story lines that will address teen issues including depression, social media, pregnancy and relationships.

Kids series Yogapalooza debuts on the Z Living network this Saturday (Oct. 4) at 8a. Hosted by entertainer Bari Koral, Yogapalooza features original pop music and explores movement and hands-on activities. Z Living (formerly Veria Living) is available on Dish Network, Verizon FiOS, Optimum, RCN and GCN, as well as through the Z Living Go app go.zliving.com.

Fans of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars will get an inside look at the show with interviews with PLL cast and crew during the fan special “Pretty Little Liars: We Love You To DeAth,” airing Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 8p as part of the net’s 13 Nights of Halloween promo… and, there’s even more drama is headed to ABC Family as the network picks up its first procedural drama. Stitchers, penned by Jeffrey A. Schechter, follows a young woman recruited into a covert government agency to be “stitched” into the minds of the recently deceased using their memories to decipher mysteries. The network also re-upped comedy Young & Hungry for a second season.

PRODUCTION NOTES

9 Story Entertainment is rolling out a new slate of series at MIPJR, including animated Animation Movers-inspired Super Movers, which we reported on last week, high-flying action series Top Wing, and Squires, an animated comedy about two medieval minions whose one chance of escaping a squire’s life means squiring harder than they’ve ever squired before. 9 Story also has acquired Jerry & The Raiders, an animated preschool series that follows a curious 7-year-old boy whose life is turned upside-down when his two Galactic Raiders action figures come to life.

Victory Arts and TVO are developing an animated/mixed media preschool series called Air Crafters. Created by Tero Hollo, founder and director of creative content for Victory Arts, the series will be produced by Victory Arts with Amberwood Entertainment exec producing. Each episode features stars Jane and Johnny and their talented friends collaborating on creative problem-solving skills and crafty talents to find the best solution to solve each dilemma they face.

BRB Internacional is ramping up its Invizimals series, based on the PlayStation videogame. The company will release a soundtrack – interpreted by Latin teen popster Abraham Mateo for the Spanish-language version – and is securing new distribution agreements, including with Al Jazeera, Russia’s Multimania and I Megamax. The series is co-produced by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Screen 21, Corporacio Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals and TVE.

DIGITAL UPDATE

A Winx Club spinoff is headed exclusively to Netflix via a new deal between the streaming giant and Winx creator Rainbow Studios. The new series, Winx Club WOW: World of Winx, will begin rolling out in all Netflix territories by early 2016 and joins the company’s growing kids roster that includes programming from DreamWorks Animation. Winx Club WOW story lines will be more serialized and designed specifically for the on-demand viewing of Netflix members.

Kids free VOD network Kabillion finalized a deal with Premavision/Clokey Productions to begin distribution in October of the iconic series Gumby on both is VOD platform and its YouTube channel. With 208 episodes, the longtime series has aired in more than 146 countries.

This Friday (Oct. 3), Amazon Prime will debut six new eps of its create-along preschool series Creative Galaxy, from Out of the Blue Enterprises.

Starz Kids & Family HD is among the 10 new channels Verizon added to the company’s TVE lineup delivered via the telco’s FiOS Mobile App.

GAMES & APPS

PBS Kids is launching Arthur’s Big App for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The app focuses on friendship, teamwork and helping others, with four multilevel games allowing kids to explore Elwood City and interact with characters. Arthur begins its 18th season on PBS Kids this week.

SeaWorld Kids is diving into the digital domain with the launch of three mobile games for iOS and Android: Turtle Trek, Underwater ABCs and Stay On the Ice.

StoryToys released the “gem-matching” Jelly Jumble app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Puffin is the first major publishing company to partner on Mind Candy’s PopJam app. The app is a social community where kids can follow their friends, brands, celebrities and trends in a safe, live-moderated environment. Puffin will host a channel for kids to connect with its range of brands and titles, including The Diary of Dennis the Menace, The Worst Witch, Cathy Cassidy’s Chocolate Box Girls and Watership Down.

LICENSING

Rainbow Brands added Earthbound to its network of representatives. The agency will represent both Winx Club and Mia and me across the U.S.

Hoho Rights appointed IVS Group as the new master toy partner for its preschool series Cloudbabies. The initial product line up will feature Beanie Plush and other merch aimed at the program’s younger audience.

Big Tent Entertainment and Pebble Technology Corp. are bringing Domo to fans through a new Domo watch face, marking Pebble’s first licensing partnership.

INTERNATIONAL

Little Airplane Productions’ Small Potatoes franchise is headed to three new markets. The movie Meet the Small Potatoes will air on ABC4Kids in Australia on Saturday (Oct. 4), and Once in Mexico will air the animated special later this year. French language broadcaster TV5 Quebec in Canada acquired the Small Potatoes series. The brand recently teamed with soft toy manufacturer Animal Magic for an app that enables fans to design their own plush Small Potatoes characters and have the toys created and delivered directly to their homes.

The Jim Henson Co. signed new licensees for Dinosaur Train in several European territories. New agreements include C-Trade and Gruppa Tovarischey (Russia), Kosmos (Germany), and Gemma International and Play by Play (U.K.).

9 Story Entertainment secured a new batch of sales for Peg + Cat, including: TFO (French-speaking Ontario), Tele-Quebec, RTP (Portugal) and MBC Kids (UAE). The series originally debuted on PBS Kids in the fall of 2013.

Atlantyca Entertainment signed with Korean-based animation company Redrover Co. to acquire distribution rights to animated series Bolts and Blip. The agreement sees Atlantyca distributing the series to Italy, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania.
