NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment is bundling Bravo, E!, Esquire and Oxygen in a new lifestyle group headed by Frances Berwick, already overseer of Bravo and Oxygen. Esquire president Adam Stotsky adds the title general manager of E! Entertainment, while E! president Suzanne Kolb leaves the company. “In a crowded, constantly evolving media landscape, it’s more important than ever to have a business structure that not only delivers results today, but also sets a course with the right leadership for future success,” said NBCU Cable Entertainment chairman Bonnie Hammer.

IN THE NEWS

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will air a live broadcast from Phoenix on Super Bowl night, Sunday, February 1, following The Blacklist and local news. The talker then tapes from LA’s Universal Studios February 2-5, its first trip to the City of Angels since its move to NYC after the end of Jay Leno’s reign as host in February 2014.

Piers Morgan’s post-CNN perch is at MailOnline, the web arm of the UK’s Daily Mail, as U.S. Editor-at-Large. “I plan on breaking down the biggest stories that matter to Americans and analyzing them in a way that will generate discussion and create debate,” said Morgan, whose three-year run as host of the news net’s Piers Morgan Live ended in February. “Writing was my first love as a journalist and being able to write on such a powerful, far-reaching and ambitious global platform is an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.”

Reelz announced the launch of a website, Independence Happens Here, in support of independent businesses. Labeling the family-run network “like a corner store of television,” the Reelz site offers content like, “How Your Underdog Business Can Slay Goliath,” and “Cowboy Maloney’s Electric City.” By posting selfies with the hashtag #REELZIndependent to Instagram or Facebook, a company will be entered into a lottery to win local advertising paid for by Reelz.

Is that a nail we hear being ripped out of Aereo’s coffin? Multichannel News cites sources saying the FCC is considering a “technology neutral” definition of an MVPD, giving an online video provider that delivers a linear stream of programming access to content via FCC’s program access rules, subject to program-carriage requirements. The National Cable & Telecommunications Association argues that qualifying as an MVPD requires a transmission path. Settle down, said FCC chairman Tom Wheeler on Tuesday. While he admits the idea was “being kicked around,” Wheeler adds, “I’m not ready to plant the flag.”

Ed Sullivan’s gone missing. An 18-inch-tall bronze statue of the iconic variety show host was snatched from the Hall of Fame Plaza outside the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in North Hollywood, CA. The statue was part of a display honoring pioneers in the TV industry. Got a tip? Call the LAPD at 818-623-4081.

Eva Longoria and Mario Lopez will host the 2014 NCLR Alma Awards, celebrating Latinos in the entertainment industry, to be simulcast live on MSNBC and mun2 as a one-hour prime time special on Friday, October 10 at 10p. Telemundo will live stream the 9p pre-show; awards and post-show will stream on MSNBC.

Spike TV launched its first TV Everywhere app on Tuesday. Content includes nearly 200 episodes of series including Ink Master, Bar Rescue and Auction Hunters, among others, along with the best of Bellator MMA and select COPS eps.

Veteran journalist Jorge Ramos will be honored at the International Press Freedom Awards for lifetime achievement. Ramos anchors AMERICA with Jorge Ramos in English on Fusion as well as Univision evening newscast Noticiero Univision and Sunday public affairs program Al Puntoin Spanish. Event takes place November 25 in NYC.
