Good morning. It’s Friday September 30, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Alex Rodriguez is bound back to FOX Sports ahead of the MLB Postseason, where he will work as a studio analyst for coverage. He made his studio debut with the company last year and is now set to return to TV on Oct. 7 on FS1 for the start of the NLDS. Meanwhile, the company’s postseason plans are also set to include Frank Thomas and Pete Rose, who will be reunited on Oct. 1 on FS1 for a half-hour postgame special, Hurt & Hustle.

ON THE AIR

NBCSN is touting its best quarter of all time from June 27-Sept. 25, drawing record viewership with a lineup that includes the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, NASCAR, the Premier League, IndyCar, Formula One, and Rio 2016 Paralympic coverage. According to Nielsen, NBCSN averaged a record 286,000 Total Day viewers in that span, besting last year by 49%, In key demos, also hit a high with averages of 100,000 Adult 18-49 viewers, up 82%.

Meanwhile, sister network Golf Channel also posted its most-watched third quarter ever, with Total Day average viewership hitting 120,000 for an uptick of 5% over last year.

With North Carolina off the books, the 2016 Dr Pepper Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship will now be held at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. The 12th annual title game remains scheduled for Dec. 3. This will mark the sixth time the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game has been played in the state of Florida.

NBCSN lined up over 35 Atlantic 10 basketball games during the 2016-17 season, including 25 regular-season men’s basketball matchups, three regular-season Atlantic 10 women’s basketball games and exclusive coverage of the second round and quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship. Coverage begins Jan. 7 at 1p with UMass/VCU.

DICK’S Sporting Goods is the latest company to lock in an extension with Team USA post-Rio. The sporting goods retailer signed a renewal that keep it as the Official Sporting Goods Retail Sponsor of the organization and its athlete through the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. The renewed partnership includes a continuation of the Company’s in-store employment Contenders Program and a $236,000 donation to support future Team USA athletes through The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation’s Every Medal program.

The Pac-12 named Opus Bank as the official bank of the conference in a new deal. The company will also be the official bank sponsor for all Pac-12 Championships and have a significant on-air and online presence across much of Pac-12 Networks’ linear and digital programming. Across the combination of Pac-12 Networks’ TV, digital and social platforms, Opus will be the presenting sponsor of the "#12 Best" franchise, Pac-12 Football Game Day (on select Saturdays), Gymnastics Meet of the Week, the Baseball Game of the Week.

The NFL lined up the first-ever Women’s Careers in Football Forum in conjunction with USA Football’s 2017 Women’s World Football Games that will take place during Pro Bowl Week in Orlando. The forum is designed to "help educate and prepare women for positions in football operations, including coaching, officiating and scouting, through panel discussions, presentations and on-field clinics and demonstrations."

DIGITAL & STREAMING

Live sports streaming startup Sportle locked in a partnership with AC Milan to stream all of the club’s live online content in the US, ranging from press conferences to training sessions to player interviews with content taken from the club’s online OTT channel, as well as Facebook Live, YouTube, Google+.

Fox Sports GO is now hitting Microsoft’s Xbox One console. The free app features content from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, UFC, NASCAR, Big 12 and Pac-12 Football, Big East Basketball, FIFA, UEFA Champions League and more.

ESPORTS

A couple new sponsors for eSports teams. Betway Sportsbook signed on to sponsor Ninjas in Pyjamas. The deal includes on-shirt branding, content usage rights, onsite branding at the NiP gaming house and full player access, according to the release. Betway’s Anthony Werkman said: "We have put a special focus on our eSports offering over the past few years by launching the first eSports specific microsite and content channels. Our agreement with NiP is yet another first and cements our position as the world’s leading eSports bookmaker."

Meanwhile, Radiant ESports announced a deal with Royal Knives with activation set to include giveaways and discounts for followers.

The Esports Championship Series unveiled the winners of the Community Caster Challenge, described as a new project that gives amateur eSports commentators a shot to perform at a professional venue. Commentators were selected from hundreds of applicants to cast live ECS matches beside the FACEIT professional team at the IMG studios in London during the main season. Selected Casters include: Joshua "Dowsey" Dowsev; Jack Evans; William Robert Dallas III; and Jamie "SwitchBladeJay" Martin.

ROSTER MOVES

Michael Shiffman was promoted to VP, content strategy, SportsCenter and News at ESPN. At the position, he will direct Planning and Bureau teams for SportsCenter and lead in coordinating the coverage of all major events that SportsCenter attends.
