HEARD AT ADVERTISING WEEK

Comcast Media 360 VP, Content Partnerships Chip Meehan said that media fragmentation doesn’t have to be a negative for the industry. “We can now winnow out the people we want to talk to and get to them efficiently, and re-aggregate the audience,” he said during the panel on Entertainment Marketing. Despite expanding distribution platforms, “If it doesn’t start with great story-telling, it doesn’t matter,” said Bobby Friedman, CEO of Bungalow Media + Entertainment. Friedman said he encourages programmers to work with agency creative execs when they work with brands, noting the challenge of “how to integrate the creatives with the media team that knows the strategy.” On the heels of his company’s recent heavy investment in data and analytics, Viacom EVP Marketing Strategy & Engagement Ross Martin said about Nielsen Total Audience Measurement, “We need a guarantee we’ll get to 50 percent of advertising deals that are outside Nielsen. The advertisers who depend on us to reach their consumers are not waiting for Nielsen or anyone else to figure it out. The sophisticated ones have devised and created their own media planning tools.”
