After airing just one episode, NBC ordered nine additional scripts for Blindspot. The thriller, which debuted a week ago, drew 3.1 million viewers in the A18-49 demo and 10.6 million viewers, which rose to a 4.5 rating and 15.2 million viewers in Live+3. Series airs Mondays at 10p.

IN THE NEWS

Exclusive: Talk about hitting the ground running. Yesterday, the morning he started as GM of Science Channel, Marc Etkind broke into regular programming to take the NASA press conference about Mars live from 11:30-11:45a. Then Etkind added a special block of the net’s “best of” Mars programming for tonight, including an all-new special at 9p, Mars Mystery Report: A Special Report. “It’s an extraordinary time to start as the GM of Science Channel, right between the rare lunar eclipse and NASA’s discovery of flowing water on Mars,” Etkind tells Cynopsis. “We are the channel for all things science as they happen, starting with tonight’s premiere report on the latest Mars finding and our best Mars themed programming.”

The 70th Annual Tony Awards air live (of course) from NYC (naturally) on Sunday, June 5 at 8p on CBS; noms will be announced Friday, April 29. The ceremony has been broadcast on the eye net since 1978.

Entertainment Tonight Weekend is getting a new co-anchor. Samantha Harris, who was part of the ET team from 2010 to 2012, nabbed the gig. Harris will also serve as a correspondent and fill-in anchor for Nancy O’Dell on ET’s weekly show. “[I] am thrilled to be working with her again,” said exec producer Brad Bessey. “She is warm, relatable, intelligent, fun and she and Cameron Mathison have a comfortable chemistry the audience tells us they love.”

Netflix picked up global streaming rights to CW‘s Jane the Virgin and CBS‘ Zoo. Season one of Zoo is currently available on Netflix in the U.S. and will be available in all Netflix territories in the coming months. On Monday, October 12, season one of Jane the Virgin will launch in the U.S., the same day the show’s sophomore season premieres on the CW. Jane the Virgin will be available later in 2015 or 2016 in all countries Netflix operates, except Canada.

Hulu has obtained subscription video on demand rights to Fox series The Last Man On Earth.  “Hulu subscribers have been huge fans of The Last Man On Earth since its premiere,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu’s SVP and head of content.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Endemol Shine North America has signed an overall production deal with Steve Harvey. Under the terms of the pact, Endemol Shine and Harvey’s East 112th Street Productions will develop original unscripted, scripted and digital programming. “We are thrilled to be extending our relationship with Steve Harvey, arguably the hottest personality in TV right now,” said Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs of Endemol Shine North America.

The CW and iHeartMedia have struck a new multi-year agreement for the CW to remain the exclusive television broadcaster of the two-day iHeartRadio Music Festival. The announcement was made by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW, and John Sykes, President of Entertainment Enterprises, iHeartMedia. The CW will telecast the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Festival two-night special on Tuesday, September 29 and Wednesday, September 30 at 8p.

COMING UP

Vintage episodes of The Merv Griffin Show and The Judy Garland Show are being added to getTV‘s primetime lineup next month. The network is creating a variety-show block to air weekly on Mondays with The Judy Garland Show opening at 8p, followed by various vintage musical and entertainment specials, and ending with 10p episodes of Merv.

A&E Network premieres miniseries The Enfield Haunting on Friday, October 9 at 10p. The supernatural thriller is a dramatization of real-life events that took place in London in 1977. Adapted from Guy Lyon Playfair’s book “This House is Haunted,” it draws on extensive documentation, recordings and witness statements recorded at the time.

Fear the Walking Dead may be ending its first season on Sunday, October 4, but “Fear” will continue to spread. AMC is rolling out new web series, Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462, beginning this fall. The first installment of the 16-parter debuts on AMC.com on Sunday, October 4 and will then air as promos during two commercial breaks within The Walking Dead season 6 premiere on Sunday, October 11.

Craft in America returns to PBS on Friday November 20 at 10p (check local listings). All new episode, Music, focuses on how fine handmade instruments are crafted and the world renowned artists who play them. The hour features interviews and performances from Joan Baez, Rhiannon Giddens and others.

Antenna TV presents special Halloween programming on October 30and 31. “Witch-O’Ween,” a Bewitched marathon, kicks off on Friday, October 30 at 8p. “Hitch-O-Ween” an Alfred Hitchcock Presents marathon, begins airing Saturday, October 31 at 1p.

RETURNING SERIES

HGTV’s Property Brothers is back with new episodes on Wednesday, October 7 at 9p. Contractor Jonathan Scott and his brother, real estate expert Drew Scott, continue their transformation of houses into dream homes.

Season Two of Vegas Rat Rods premieres Monday, October 19 at 10p on Discovery Channel. The series follows Steve Darnell and his team as they rebuild Mad Max-style "rat rod" cars out of hidden treasures buried in junkyards, fields and swap meets.

Tia Mowry at Home returns Wednesday, November 4 at 8p on Cooking Channel. Viewers are promised new recipes and inspiring food adventures.

American Public Television is distributing more episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000.  Twelve new installments of the series will be available on public television beginning in early 2016.

CASTING

Minka Kelly is joining the cast of The Path. The Hulu drama is slated to premiere in early 2016.

Joel Thomas Hynes (Rookie Blue) has nabbed a series regular role on BBC America‘s  Orphan Black. The show’s fourth season premieres  in spring 2016.

Scout Taylor-Compton, remembered as Dean’s sister on Gilmore Girls, is joining the cast of Nashville in a recurring role. The ABC series is currently in its fourth season.

GLOBAL GOINGS-ON

Discovery Networks International has acquired Blood Lions from PBS Distribution. The documentary takes viewers on a journey inside South Africa’s lucrative trophy hunting industry. It will first air across more than 200 countries and territories starting in late September.

Entertainment One is expanding its relationship with Ilana Frank and her production company ICF Films through a new three-year overall deal, with eOne serving as the studio, deficit financier and distributor on all of Frank’s projects across all media. Since joining forces on a first-look basis in 2008, ICFF and eOne have delivered long-running series to over 200 territories.

GRB Ent has inked a deal with Seven Network Australia for competition cooking show BBQ Pitmasters. The net follows Foxtel in acquiring the series for Free TV.

Electus International has picked up global distribution rights to the film Jerusalem, including television, SVOD, and Home Video. Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, the 45-minute production gives audiences a unique look at one of the world’s most iconic cities.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Steve Mosko has been promoted from President to Chairman of Sony Pictures Television. Mosko has been with the studio since 1992 and was named president of SPT in 2000. He oversees global television production, distribution of feature film and television content, and the studio’s international networks.

Marc Etkind has been named General Manager, Science Channel. He last served as General Manager of Destination America, where he helped develop and launch the network. Etkind replaces Rita Mullin, who left the company. Jane Latman, formerly General Manager of Discovery Life Channel, will succeed Etkind and perform double duty as Senior Vice President of Development for Investigation Discovery.

Scripps Networks Interactive is making some changes. Shannon Jamieson Driver, who leads marketing and creative services for HGTV, DIY Network and Great American Country, was upped to Senior Vice President, Network Marketing and Creative Services. Gabriel Gordon, who leads research for Food Network and Cooking Channel, has been elevated to lead brand research across all of Scripps Networks Interactive’s brands. Freddy James has been appointed Senior Vice President, Network Integrated Programming, Alaka Williams has been named Senior Vice President of Network Human Resources and Cheryl Middleton Jones has been appointed Senior Vice President of International Human Resources.

Independent feature film producer Sebastian Dungan has joined Lifetime as Vice President, Original Movies. Dungan was founding partner in the independent production company 72 Productions.

Sabrina Padwa has been named Senior Vice President, Business Affairs, ABC Family. Padwa joins the network from sister-company ABC Studios, where she has served as Vice President, Business Affairs since 2006.

Simulmedia has named three new members to its Board of Advisors: Tim Spengler, formerly President of Content Marketing and Revenue Strategy at iHeartMedia; Jack Wakshlag, who last served as Chief Research Officer for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.; and marketing strategist Marshall Cohen, who was on the management team that launched MTV, VH1, Nick at Nite and TV Land.
