Nina Tassler is stepping down as Chairman of CBS Entertainment in December. Tassler, who has held the post since 2004, will remain with CBS in an advisory role through at least 2017. Glenn Geller, EVP of current programming for CBS Network Television Entertainment Group, will take over as President, CBS Entertainment, and report to CEO Leslie Moonves. “I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Leslie, my colleagues at CBS and all the actors, producers and writers who were part of this incredible journey,” said Tassler. “I will always love this place, yet it is time for my next chapter, and I’m thrilled that I can pursue my other creative interests while still being part of the company.” Moonves noted that Geller will assume his full duties as President immediately, working closely with Tassler during the transition.
IN THE NEWS
Isaac Caldiero made history – and took home $1 million – on Monday as the first contestant to win NBC’s American Ninja Warrior over the show’s seven seasons. The 33-year-old professional rock climber scaled the course’s towering Stage 4 rope climb in 26.14 seconds, narrowly beating out fellow competitor Geoff Britten.
BET Networks struck a deal with Black&Sexy TV to bring its online programming to network television. Headed by Dennis Dortch and Numa Perrie, Black&Sexy TV debuted in 2011 as a digital entertainment and lifestyle network. “BET is always looking for innovative ways to bring content to the channel that suits our audience,” said Pete Danielsen, EVP of Program Planning, Scheduling and Acquisitions. “We noticed Black&Sexy TV has a dedicated fan base, and their fans’ obsession for this content mirrors the obsession our audience has for BET and our content.” Black&Sexy TV kicks off its linear premiere of RoomieLoverFriends on Wednesday, September 16 at 11p.
David Feherty is leaving CBS for NBC Sports. The golf analyst inked a five-year deal that includes NBC’s coverage of Olympic golf, the PGA Tour, the European Tour and the Ryder Cup, a first-look development pact with Universal Television and an extension of his Golf Channel interview show, Feherty.
Broadcast nets Grit and Escape are ready to play with the big boys (and girls), subscribing to Nielsen Media Services and being rated nationally, while expanding into general market advertising sales. Jonathan Katz, president and CEO of Katz Broadcasting, which owns and operates the two nets, also announced that Marathon Ventures will oversee general market advertising and sponsorship efforts for both Grit and Escape.

PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT
Electus and Barracuda Productions have acquired the rights to Treasure Hunt, an original comedy/game show hybrid from the golden age of television. Executive Producers Barry Poznick and Chris Grant will adapt the show, but the basic premise will remain the same: a single contestant selects one of 30 “treasure chests” and wins what’s inside. “Treasure Hunt combines the laughter and lunacy of The Gong Show, with the decision making and risk taking of Deal or No Deal,” said Poznick. “There’s been a growing appetite for the classic game shows we grew up with.”
FOX put out a pilot order for a TV remake of the 2001 film Behind Enemy Lines, starring Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman, per the Hollywood Reporter. Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Homeland) is set to pen the script and direct the project, should it move forward.
TV One has begun production on Rickey Smiley For Real, a one-hour series featuring the syndicated radio personality, host and stand-up comedian. The show centers on Smiley as he navigates the ups and downs of professional demands, single fatherhood, and intimate relationships. The series will debut in November.
Production veteran Tom Farrell has acquired independent content studio The WorkShop (clients have included Donald Trump, Sugar Ray Leonard, Michael Phelps and Ray Romano). A new focus on digital content production, will be steered by newly added development veteran Ray Murray.
