Good morning. It’s Tuesday, September 15, 2015, and this is your weekly issue of Cynopsis: Jobs!

What are the secrets to career advancement? Mary Olson Menzel, Managing Director and Founding Partner Sagin LLC and MVP Executive Search and recent moderator of the Cynopsis Webinar, Transforming Your Career: Moving from Linear TV to New Media, shares some of the wisdom she gleaned from our panel of experts. The panel included seasoned executives from various media organizations, including Steve Bookbinder, John Rohrs and Vikki Neil. Below is a sample of the Q & A discussed during the web session.

Q: What have the specific challenges been for you in this new media environment?

A:  Never stop learning. Stay on top of changes and understand the lingo to help customers and clients achieve their goals in an environment that is changing every day.

Q: What skills are most in demand and what are you looking for in an executive?

A:  People versed in the latest technology and willing to learn new things are the most in demand.

Q: What advice would you give people today?

A: Be nimble. Today more than ever, sometimes you just have to pivot.

Q: What is the best advice for transitioning from traditional media to new media?

A: Don’t rule out making a lateral move – it can be best way to achieve a transition.

Whether in traditional media or new media, it is still about telling a great story and engaging the customer or consumer.  Your clients and your employers are looking for people who can bring solutions and ideas to the table.  If you can be that person, you will get noticed and you will get opportunities to move up and move into different areas.  It takes persistence and patience but many have made the transition successfully.

BET Networks appointed P. Sean Gupta as Vice President of Programming Strategy. Gupta was previously Senior Director of Business Decisions at Time Warner Cable.

Pamela Post has been upped to Senior Vice President of Original Programming and Series Development of Logo. She will continue to serve as Executive Producer of RuPaul’s Drag Race .

Patrick Kelly has been elevated to Executive Vice President of Business Affairs for TBS and TNT. He has been with Turner Entertainment’s business affairs department since 2002.

Orion Entertainment has announced two new hires. Allison Boon, formerly Senior Director of Development for RIVR Media, assumes the newly created role of Vice President, Development. Katie Fimple has been named Director, Development. She was previously at High Noon Entertainment.

Craig A. Geller has been appointed Executive Vice President, Network Sales and Digital of Azteca America. Geller last served as Senior Vice President, Advertising Sales and Integrated Marketing at NUVOtv.

Vice Media has hired James Rosenstock as its Executive Vice President of International and Corporate Development. The media veteran last worked at Discovery Communications.

Veteran communications executive Sallie Schoneboom is headed to IFC as Senior Vice President of Public Relations. Schoneboom, previously SVP of Communications for Syfy and Chiller, will oversee development and implementation of strategic consumer media relations, program publicity and talent relations for the comedy brand.

NATPE named Matt Palmer to the newly created position of chief marketing officer. Palmer, a former senior marketing and business development executive for companies including Disney and Viacom, will lead global strategy and creative for NATPE’s marketing, branding, digital, research, public relations and strategic planning initiatives.

Lionsgate Television Group named Jennifer O’Connell as EVP of alternative programming. O’ Connell, most recently was head of TV at Core Media, will oversee development and production of Lionsgate’s unscripted slate.

Stacy Green has been elevated to EVP, global human resources and facilities, for A+E Networks. Green joined the company in 2013 as SVP, human resources.

Several executive moves at A&E Network: The network promoted Devon Graham Hammonds to VP of development and programming and Laurie Sharpe to executive producer of non-fiction and alternative programming; Emily Flood joins the network as senior executive producer, development from TLC.

Pop elevated David Mandell to the newly created post of COO. He began his tenure at Pop (formerly TVGN) in December 2013 as EVP/general counsel.

HLN named Kerry O’Connor-Aouad, formerly senior producer at CNN’s morning program New Day, as executive producer of Morning Express with Robin Meade and Weekend Express with Lynn Smith. O’Connor-Aouad will be based at CNN HQ in Atlanta.
