Good morning. It’s Thursday September 1, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Buffalo Wild Wings is reenrolling with the NCAA, renewing that partnership that makes the brand as the “Official Hangout for NCAA Sports” with the deal spanning NCAA March Madness, NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Four and all individual Championships, and includes marketing, media and activation rights surrounding all 90 NCAA Championships. The deal comes via a joint agreement with Turner Sports and CBS Sports with the brand also now sponsoring 23 colleges and universities through partnerships with Learfield and IMG. BWW will also create various promotions and ticket giveaways that allow its more than 1,100 restaurants in the United States to bring college sports to life for fans in local markets.

ON THE AIR

NBC Sports Group detailed its plans for the 2016 Ryder Cup which runs from Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at Hazeltine National Golf Club and will receive 25 hours of live action on Golf Channel (Friday) and NBC (Saturday-Sunday). Coverage will be complemented by Golf Central Live From the Ryder Cup programming. Mike Tirico will host all three days of coverage, as well as the trophy presentation on Sunday while Dan Hicks and Terry Gannon takes care of play-by-play duties, while Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo (Friday morning) and David Feherty (Saturday morning) will rotate as lead analyst in the 18th tower. Promotion will include the “It’s Not Golf, It’s the Ryder Cup” campaign that will run on NBC-owned channels as well as ESPN, Fox Sports, NFL Network, AMC, Discovery, History, A&E, Food, FX, and TNT.

ESPN is tapping the Yankees/Red Sox for its Sept. 18 edition of Sunday Night Baseball at 8p.  In addition, the Red Sox David Ortiz is expected to make his 60th and final Sunday Night Baseball appearance of his career.

NBC Sports Group hits its inaugural season of Aviva Premiership Rugby coverage this weekend, lining up more than 70 combined matches that will be televised on NBCSN. First out of the gate will be the Saracens/Warriors on Saturday at 9:30a. Leigh Diffey will serve as the studio host and will be joined by Alex Corbisiero. Alastair Eykyn, Lawrence Dallaglio, and Ugo Monye will call the match.

MLB Network welcomes Meet The Press moderator Chuck Todd as a guest panelist on MLB Now this afternoon at 4p. This marks the first time Todd will be a guest panelist for the show, where he will join Brian Kenny, MKen Rosenthal and Dan Plesac.

MX1 locked in Premier League Productions via a new deal with IMG that covers MX1’s distribution of Premier League match broadcasts to TV service providers and audiences worldwide as part of a multi-year deal. “We are providing Premier League Productions with content distribution services via our global network and regional media centers to give millions of sports fans across the globe the ultimate viewing experience,” said Elad Manishviz, CMO & CBO Sport and Events, at MX1.

ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen provided an update on his health after taking leave to battle Stage IV throat cancer, stating that he hopes to return this season. “I received very encouraging news last week from my oncologist team of doctors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center that now enables me to completely focus on recovery rather than treatment,” he said, adding that “My return-to-work status has variables with no definitive target date but I anticipate being able to participate in NFL coverage on a limited basis as the 2016 season gets underway.”

Meanwhile, TNT basketball pillar Craig Sager is about to undergo a third bone marrow transplant and stem cell transplant, according to his son, per a story in the AP. Craig Sager II announced the procedure on Twitter on Tuesday, saying the marrow will be provided by an anonymous donor.

Career opportunities platform randrr locked in a multiyear endorsement deal with four-time PGA Tour winner Chris Kirk, marking the first-ever golf player endorsement for the company. Kirk will now wear the randrr logo on the chest of his golf shirt at all golf-related appearances and make appearances at events in key markets in support of the company.

The International Tennis Federation is teaming with Special Olympics for a long-term strategic partnership that will see the ITF offer a slate of tennis based services, including coaching and teaching resources, as well as its support of the Special Olympics and the sport’s inclusion in their work. Special Olympics will now recognize the ITF as one of their international partners and use the ITF’s Play and Stay/Tennis 10 campaigns as training and competition programs for people with intellectual disabilities.

MLB is making Friday Childhood Cancer Awareness Day at all MLB ballparks in partnership with Stand Up To Cancer. All Major League players, coaches, umpires and grounds crew members will wear gold ribbon decals and wristbands to promote awareness for childhood cancer. Clubs may choose to partner with local nonprofits, including hospital partners or organizations focused on childhood cancer, for their Childhood Cancer Awareness Day activations.

DIGITAL & STREAMING

UFCinked a multi-year digital partnership with Japan’s new OTT platform from Perform, DAZN that hands fans in the country access to all UFC live events including UFC203: Miocic vs. Overseem. “At DAZN we’re dedicated to giving Japanese sports fans even more access to leading domestic and international sports, which is why we’re delighted to partner with UFC,” said Takashi Nakamura, President and Managing Director of DAZN Japan. “Our partnership means UFC fans will be able to access the sport they love across the devices they own, all for one affordable monthly price.”

The ACC Digital Network is launching two exclusive Facebook Live shows to serve conference fans this fall. ACCDN Kickoff Live will run Thursdays at 6pcstarting today with hosts Jeff Fischel and Wes Bryant, while ACC Players of the Week takes place on Mondays at noon starting Sept. 6 with host Jeff Fischel and then running on Mondays.

Twitter is tapping the services for BAMTech to help stream its $10 million TNF package of NFL games this season, according to the WSJ. Twitter will use its own technology to monetize local ad spots for the games, according to the report, utilizing its own player and dynamic ad insertion to showcase different ads to users based on Twitter targeting data.

TuneIn extended its tied with IMG, Learfield, FOX Sports and Sun Devil Media Network ahead of the new college football season. The deals mark a record number of universities for which live play-by-play and school-specific audio content will be available via TuneIn’s free level of service. As part of TuneIn’s partnership with IMG the company will relaunch the College Sports Now channel that will broadcast two IMG-produced original programs: a two-hour college sports round-up show and Nissan College Football Blitz.

A new fantasy sports app is offering a spin on social good with the launch of Win-Win today. The platform will see professional athletes host weekly tournaments to win experiential prizes in exchange for proceeds being designated to that athlete’s preferred charity. Patrick Peterson will serve as its first charity host on Sept. 8. Win-Win is founded by former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Mike Tauiliili Brown.

Christie’s is delivering “The Golden Age of Baseball, Selections from the National Pastime Museum” to collectors offering “one of the most important and comprehensive collections of baseball memorabilia and photography ever offered at auction.” The two-day auction runs October 19-20 in NY with items also be on display in other locations for the public, offering items owned and used by icons such as Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Willie Mays, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Jimmy Foxx, and more.
