A bad joke about Beyonce and Jay Z’s 2-year-old daughter has landed a BET producer in hot water. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the exec was suspended after a remark about Blue Ivy’s hair aired during the network’s music video countdown show, 106 & Park. Guest host Karrueche Tran made a comment about the child’s “thoughts” during Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, saying, “I really did wake up like this, because my parents never comb my hair," adding, "Sorry, Blue! I love you!" BET’s president of music programming and specials, Stephen Hill, publicly apologized on Twitter and also reached out to Beyonce and Jay Z privately.

IN THE NEWS

Famed comedienne Joan Rivers was rushed to New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, after she stopped breathing during throat surgery on Thursday. According to reports, the 81-year-old host of Fashion Police was undergoing surgery on her vocal chords at a clinic on the Upper East Side.  E! later announced that River’s condition had been upgraded from critical to stable.

CBS has announced the 11 teams racing around the world for the opportunity to win the $1 million prize on the new season of The Amazing Race. The competitors on the 25th edition of the Emmy Award-winning series include: professional surfer Bethany Hamilton and her husband Adam Dirks, Boston firefighters Michael Ward and Scott Strazzullo and professional wrestlers Robbie E. Strauss and Brooke Adams. The show premieres on its new day and time, Friday, September 26 at 8p.

A YouTuber will be competing for the mirror ball trophy. ABC has announced that Bethany Mota, famous for her videos on fashion, beauty, and hair, has been cast on season 19 of Dancing With the Stars. Mota has more than 8 million subscribers between her two channels, Bethany Mota and BethanysLife.

Netflix has acquired the rights to NBC drama The Blacklist from Sony Pictures TV. The deal, which Variety reports is worth about $2 million per episode, would make it the most expensive off-network series picked up by the internet streaming provider.

A&E has decided not to bring back top scripted drama series Longmire for a fourth season, despite recent fan appeals for a renewal. The show suffered a steep decline in ratings in its third season, yet still averaged about 3.5 million viewers per episode.

As a part of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network’s efforts to expand original programming into the digital space, the network has moved forward with the Who Am I web series on their re-launched website Oprah.com and youtube.com/own.  The web series, which launched with two episodes yesterday, will have a new 2-3 minute episode rolling out every Thursday.

Chloe Grace Moretz, Josh Gad, James Marsden, Megan Hilty and Robin Roberts are among the notables taking part in STOMP Out Bullying‘s annual celebrity video series in support of Blue Shirt Day World Day of Bullying Prevention at stompoutbullying.org. This year’s global effort takes place on Monday, October 6,when kids, teens and parents are asked to wear a blue shirt in solidarity.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

McDreamy is delving into the executive producing world. Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey and his Shifting Gears Entertainment banner has inked a deal with ABC Studios to create and develop new scripted programming. Shifting Gears has also optioned Michael Cannell’s racing book The Limit as a potential drama series at Sundance TV.

Johnny Knoxville has signed a two-year first-look deal with ABC Studios. The network is developing a semi-autobiographical comedy based on the Jackass star’s life.

Vive La France! Netflix has ordered its first French original series. Marseille is a tale of power, corruption and redemption in the French port city. The drama is slated to debut in late 2015.

FOX is developing the sci-fi insomnia drama Nod, based on the novel of the same name by Adrian Barnes. The plot involves a world where much of humanity has lost the ability to sleep, yet no one is tired.

CBS-owned television stations in six markets are paying tribute to Robin Williams by airing episodes of Mork and Mindy from the CBS Television Distribution library. The marathon airs Labor Day weekend on WLNY-TV in New York (Monday, September 1 from 9a to 8p), KCAL-TV in Los Angeles (Sunday, August 31 from 1 to 8p), KBCW-TV in San Francisco (Sunday, August 31 from 12 to 8p), WSBK-TV in Boston (Monday, September 1 from 9a to 2p) and KMAX-TV in Sacramento (Sunday, August. 31 from 11a to 7p). WPCW-TV in Pittsburgh will air a seven-hour marathon on Sunday, September 21 from 1 to 8p.

The first five episodes of Starz original filmmaking experiment The Chair will be available exclusively to the network’s subscribers on STARZ Play and STARZ On Demand beginning Saturday, September 6. The first episode of the network’s first unscripted series will also debut on Starz on Saturday, September 6 at 11p. “Starz is making the first five episodes of The Chair available on the same day of the television premiere of the series to reach a young adult population that is in the vanguard of ‘bingeing’ on shows as their preferred method of viewing,” said Chris Albrecht, Starz CEO.

Sportsman Channel airs the network cable premiere of Murph: The Protector on Thursday, September 4 and Friday, September 5 at 7p. Presented by Bravo Company, the documentary offers an in-depth look at Lt. Michael Murphy’s life of honor and courage, as told by his friends, family and teammates.

Netflix new original series Marco Polo will be available on December 12 at 12:01a. The 10-episode drama about the Italian explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th century China stars Italian newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy.

RETURNING SERIES

Things are about to get horrifying. FX‘s American Horror Story: Freak Show is set to debut on Wednesday, October 8.

Aquarium experts Wayde King and Brett Raymer will soon be back with new episodes of Tanked and some high-profile clients. Sport legends Shaquille O’Neal and Pete Rose, TV host Mario Lopez, actor Wilmer Valderrama and Long Island Medium’s Theresa Caputo will be featured in upcoming new episodes of the Animal Planet series, which begins airing Friday, September 19 at 10p.

Investigation Discovery’s Surviving Evil returns for its second season on Wednesday, September 3 at 9p. The series features all-new stories of extraordinary women who found their lives in the hands of cold-blooded criminals, but fought back and survived.

It’s time to play more Family Feud. Coming off its fourth straight year of growth, following the arrival of Steve Harvey as host in September 2010, producer FremantleMedia North America and distributor Debmar-Mercury have announced that the hit nationally syndicated game show will return for a new season on Monday, September 15. CASTING

David Hyde Pierce is joining The Good Wife in a recurring role during the CBS series’ sixth season. He’ll play a highly respected cable news legal commentator so disgusted by the corruption and murder rate in Chicago that he decides to run for office to affect change.

Shonda Rhimes, executive producer of ABC‘s Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder, will make a cameo appearance on a season-three episode of FOX’s The Mindy Project. Rhimes, reportedly a big fan of the show, will play herself.

Scandal‘s Matt Letscher has been tapped to guest star on the Season 7 premiere of ABC’s Castle, airing Monday, September 29 at 10p. He’ll portray Henry Jenkins, a security consultant who provides Beckett with key information on a case.

Daniel Franzese (Mean Girls) has boarded the 10-episode second season ofLookingin a multi-episode arc HBO’s gay-themed dramedywill play Eddie, a new love interest who works in the San Francisco nonprofit community.

DISTRIBUTION AND CARRIAGE

CBS Corporation has completed a deal with LIN Media to renew existing station affiliation agreements for 12 LIN stations in ten markets nationwide. The agreement includes renewals for KRQE in Albuquerque, N.M.; KBIM-TV in Roswell, N.M.; KREZ-TV in Durango, Colo.; WIAT in Birmingham, Ala.; WIVB-TV in Buffalo, N.Y.; WANE in Fort Wayne, Ind.; WLFI-TV in Lafayette, Ind.; KIMT in Mason City, Iowa; KOIN in Portland, Ore.; WPRI in Providence, R.I.; WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Ind.; and WKBN-TV in Youngstown, Ohio.

RightThisMinute, the television show that covers web videos before they go viral and breaking the stories behind them, has cleared 91% of the country, expanding to 182 stations for the 2014-2015 season. Along with the expansion, RightThisMinute has added new host Oli Pettigrew. The show is created and owned by MagicDust, in partnership with Cox Media Group, Raycom Media, Inc, and Scripps.

INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS

21st Century’s Fox International Channels is bringing FoxLife to Spain in October. The network, targeted at a female audience, will air U.S. hit shows Scandal and The Good Wife. In addition, it will offer content designed to match the tastes of the local audience, including the show The World’s Best Chefs.

Tern TV has secured new BBC arts commissions in 2014. The deal includes a one-off special Constable: The Country Rebel and three part series Treasures of the Indus (wt) both for BBC Four.

HISTORY Asia is launching its first original reality competition series, Photo Face-Off, on Tuesday, September 23. A collaboration between HISTORY and Canon, it features amateur photographers going head-to-head with professional photographer, Justin Mott, in a series of challenges.

CBS‘ Big Brother was the top-rated program of the night on Wednesday, August 27, at 6.8 million, 2.3. The network was also number one among adults 18-49 (1.5) in primetime.

The season finale of HISTORY’s Counting Cars ranked as Tuesday night’s #1 show on cable among Men 25-54 averaging 853,000 impressions. It was also a season high for the series in all key demos with 2.3 million total viewers, 1.3 million Adults 25-54 and 1.1 million Adults 18-49
