The first day of a 12-day Simpsons marathon on FXX “truly exceeded our wildest expectations,” said Chuck Saftler, President, Program Strategy and COO, FX Networks. Thursday was the most-watched day in FXX’s one-year history, according to Nielsen estimates, ranking number one among all basic cable nets in primetime among M18-34, and number two among A18-34. Primetime episodes averaged 1.01 million total viewers in Live+ Same Day, a 391 percent boost, and 623,000 among A18-49, a 461 percent lift. As for the Live+Same Day reporting, which FX has pulled away from, the net notes that percentage increases for Live+7 are “inconsequential” for acquired programming.

IN THE NEWS

At the end of the season finale of Discovery’s long-running Mythbusters Thursday night, original hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman announced that build team Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara will not be returning for the science series’ next go-round. All three took to Twitter to thank fans. “The show is taking a different direction,” posted Byron. “It was an amazing run.”

A day-long strike led to a union contract for about 30 Survivor post-production editors, who ratified a deal with Island Post Productions that provides full health and pension benefits, a 40-hour work week and double time after 12 hours. Season 29 of the CBS reality show launches Wednesday, September 24 at 8p.

A contestant on VH1 reality show Dating Naked is suing for $10 million in damages after her crotch was flashed onscreen without proper blurring. In the suit, plaintiff Jessie Nizewitz is seeking damages for economic losses, humiliation, emotional distress and embarrassment.

Tickets to the PaleyFest Fall TV Previews events in L.A. and screenings in N.Y. from September 6-15 are available at www.PaleyFest.org. Two special programs this year include “A Fall Season Premiere: MTV’s Faking It” on Friday, September 12, and “Fall Flashback: The Facts of Life 35th Anniversary Reunion” on Monday, September 15.

SAG-AFTRA members voted a big “yes” for a new three-year contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. 92 percent of members were in favor of the deal.

Season one of Sleepy Hollow is available on Hulu Plus, which acquired exclusive streaming rights in advance of the Fox supernatural drama’s season two premiere on Monday, September 22 at 9p.

Pivot is repackaging Mixtape by SoulPancake, the web series from Rainn Wilson (The Office), for episodes starting tonight at 8:30p. The SoulPancake channel on YouTube boasts 1.3 million subscribers.

Oscar-winner Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) will direct the pilot for AMC geopolitical drama White City, focused on Western diplomats and journalists living in Afghanistan. The script “reminds me of Altman’s MASH or a great Hal Ashby script,” said Gaghan. “But really, let’s face it, if Coppola was doing Apocalypse Now today, it would be an AMC series.”

Aaron Paul signed a first-look production deal with Sony Pictures TV, reports Deadline. The Emmy-winning Breaking Bad actor will develop projects through his production company, Lucid Road Productions.

NBC is not moving forward with Emerald City, the 10-ep Wizard of Oz-themed drama it ordered straight-to-series for next season, reports Deadline. Project was based on L. Frank Baum’s novels.

Medical drama Code Black has a put pilot commitment from CBS. Michael Seitzman will write and exec produce; ABC Studios is producing.

Bates Motel co-showrunner and star Freddie Highmore sold a script to NBC. Romantic comedy focuses on a female exec and her young assistant.

Come on down! Former The Price Is Right host Bob Barker is making his third appearance on CBS soap The Bold and the Beautiful, and he’ll pack a few punches, Happy Gilmore style. Barker wallops a character who insults animal lovers…but not before urging him to get his pets spayed or neutered on Thursday, August 28 at 1:30p.

NBC is partnering with Facebook tonight for red carpet coverage preceding tonight’s Emmy Awards. Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush introduces the Facebook Mention Box, which will populate Facebook with fan questions for celebs on the carpet. The 66th Emmy Red Carpet Special, starting at 7:30p, will also feature a Facebook Selfie Station.

The spotlight’s on Godzilla on Sony Movie Channel Mondays in September, with a “Manday” block every week at 10p. First up: 1998 blockbuster Godzilla, on September 1.

OWN’s Iyanla: Fix My Life Special Report: Healing in Ferguson airs Tuesday, August 26 at 9p.  The episode features spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant embedding herself in the Missouri community and working to help citizens form a plan for peace after the shooting death of Michael Brown. Coming face to face: Brown’s uncle and Ferguson’s police chief.

AXS TV launches season four of The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands with a tip of the crown to The King. A 90-minute special ep featuring an Elvis Presley tribute artist airs Tuesday, September 9 at 10p.

State Farm summoned ghosts of Saturday Night Live past for spots launched during Sunday’s MTV VMAs. The characters, including Rob Schneider’s Richmeister, appear in a DDB Chicago campaign resulting from a relationship between the insurance giant and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video Entertainment, reports Adweek.

Lexus made it easy for viewers to skip ads in an interactive TV campaign that ran June 2-July 13 – but 73 percent chose not to, according to MediaPost. In two spots running on connected TV platforms, viewers could use their remote to skip a message after five seconds. “We’re now facing an age where brands are increasingly expecting the same viewing flexibility and proof of performance from television advertising as they do from an online marketing campaign,” said Teri Hill, Lexus media manager.

CASTING

Steven Strait (Magic City) and Shohreh Aghdashloo (24) will star in 10-ep space opera The Expanse, premiering on Syfy in 2015.

Add Joe Morton (Scandal), Barry Bostwick (Spin City) and Geoff Stults (Enlisted) to the supporting cast of Grace and Frankie. Netflix comedy starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin is headed for a 2015 premiere.

Levi Meaden (The 100) will recur in Syfy’s Olympus. The 13-ep mythology drama launches in 2015.

Niecy Nash (Getting On) will recur on season three as a rival of Mindy Kaling’s character of Fox’s The Mindy Project, reports TVLine. Comedy returns Tuesday, September 16 at 9:30p.

Guest star Jesse Metcalf (Dallas) posted photos of himself on social media on the set of CBS’s 2 Broke Girls. “Unbelievably talented cast and crew!” wrote Metcalf. “Thanks for being so cool and kind.” Comedy returns Monday, October 27 at 8p.

Lifetime’s Project Runway scored a season high .75 rating among A18-49 on Thursday, and 2.37 million total viewers.

Big Brother hit a 2.3/8 among A18-49 on Thursday, matching the highest rating for the CBS reality show on any night this summer.

The season premiere of Dr. Who on the U.K.’s BBC One on Saturday averaged 6.8 million viewers and a 33 percent share. It was the most-watched premiere since 2010.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS and UNI tied for the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 1.5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. Univision won 8p with 1.6/6 for Mi Corazon Es Tuyo, followed by a 1.5/6 average for CBS’s The Big Bang Theory and Mom.
