Comedy Bang! Bang! creator/star Scott Aukerman tweeted out the news: The upcoming 10-episode fifth season of the IFC series will be its final one. The new season premieres Friday, October 28, with back-to-back episodes at 11p and 11:30p and will air two back-to-back eps weekly leading up to the finale on December 10. “Comedy Bang! Bang! has been an incredibly important show for IFC,” said IFC president Jennifer Caserta, noting the series “had a unique sensibility in the comedy space, and delivered an amazing array of A-list guest stars” in its more than 100 episodes.

To the contrary, Amy Schumer says her Comedy Central series is not over. Schumer clarified an earlier tweet, noting that Inside Amy Schumer is on an indefinite hiatus with no season 5 “in the foreseeable future” but has not left the building.

Following the death of host John McLaughlin earlier this week, The McLaughlin Group will air its final episode this week. McLaughlin ushered in the feisty gathering of political pundits in April 1982. This week’s edition, which airs nationwide across many PBS stations, will pay tribute to its creator.

Ashleigh Banfield will end her run as host of CNN’s Legal View. Banfield concluded yesterday’s edition with the news that she’ll sign off on August 23 and is headed to a new gig hosting a primetime show on HLN. Banfield began her CNN tenure in 2011.

A&E has leap-frogged the 22nd annual Critics’ Choice Awards to the front of awards season. The show will air live on Sunday, December 11 at 8p, with comedian T.J. Miller set to return as host. Last year the show aired January 17.

British news anchor Charlie Webster is in a coma after contracting a rare form of malaria while covering the Olympics in Rio. The former Sky News sports anchor, who had recently completed a six-week, 3,000-mile “Ride to Rio” cycling challenge, reportedly started to feel sick at the Olympics opening ceremony and was hospitalized the next day.

UP TV renewed reality series Bringing Up Bates for a fifth season, and Growing Up McGhee for a second season. The fourth season of Bringing Up Bates is currently premiering new episodes on Thursdays at 9p featuring a flurry of new transitions for the Bates family. Growing Up McGhee follows a couple and family life with their sextuplets.

Democratic Vice Presidential nominee and Virginia Senator Tim Kaine will make his first appearance on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday, August 25.

According to a recent report from IBM Cloud Video about the state of streaming video, leveraging data is the key to making consumers happy. David Mowrey,Vice President of Strategic Planning & Global Alliances at IBM Cloud Video, talks SVOD strategy in the new Cynsiders.

McDonald’s USA will televise its 13th annual 365Black Awards ceremony, the fourth consecutive year on BET. Hosted by actor/photographer Lance Gross and singer Amber P. Riley, the program will air Thursday, September 1 at 9p and feature R&B songstress Toni Braxton accepting a lifetime achievement honor. The event is held in conjunction with Essence Festival, presented by Coca-Cola.

Decades Network, the multicast TV net from Weigel Broadcasting Co. and CBS Television Stations, will air a four-day tribute to The Three Stooges from Monday, August 29 through Thursday, September 1, in honor of the 33rd anniversary of the show receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Lifetime will premiere the movie Girl In the Box on Saturday, September 10 at 8p. Based on the true story of Colleen Stan, a young woman kidnapped in 1977 and held as a sex slave for over half a decade, the movie stars Zelda Williams, Addison Timlin and Zane Holtz. Then on September 17 at 8p, Lifetime will air Sister Cities, based on the play about four estranged half-sisters who reunite after their mother’s alleged suicide. Sister Cities stars Jacki Weaver, Stana Katic, Jess Weixler, Troian Bellisario, Michelle Trachtenberg and Kaia Gerber in her acting debut.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

The mid-season premiere of Chrisley Knows Best airs on USA Network on Tuesday, August 23, with back-to-back episodes beginning at 10p.

But wait… there’s more. Haunted Case Files, featuring ghost hunters recounting their most extreme supernatural experiences debuts on Destination America on Sunday, August 28 at 10p. Each episode features a story from three different paranormal investigation groups, along with interviews, recreations and actual recordings of the evidence they captured.

New culinary adventures await in the fourth season of WGBH/Fine Cooking Magazine’s Moveable Feast with Fine Cooking, which bows Saturday, September 3 (check local listings) on public television. Host, Australian chef and author Pete Evans, will travel to an array of incredible food destinations in 13 new episodes.

Josh Elkin returns to host a new season of Sugar Showdown, premiering Wednesday, September 14 at 10p on Cooking Channel. The new season of competition will again feature three expert bakers battle it out in two rounds of challenges that test their baking skills and creativity.

Dance Moms season 6 twirls back to Lifetime with new episodes beginning Tuesday, September 6 at 9p. Then on Lifetime, the 15th season of Project Runway drops Thursday, September 15 at 9p with returning host Heidi Klum, mentor and co-host Tim Gunn, and judges Nina Garcia and Zac Posen. Guest judges will include actresses Nina Dobrev, Emily Ratajkowski and Sutton Foster.

CASTING

Corbin Bernsen (Psych) takes on a potentially recurring role as Vulcan in Starz‘s adaptation of the fantasy novel American Gods.

Emmy-nominated Melora Hardin (Transparent) will step into a lead role in the Freeform pilot Issues, which is inspired by the life of Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles and follows three young career women in NY.

Andrea Martin, two-time Emmy and Tony winner, joined the cast of NBC’s Hairspray Live!, premiering at 8p on Wednesday, December 7. Martin will play Prudy Pingleton, Penny Pingleton’s (Ariana Grande) overprotective mother. Martin also is set to co-star in NBC midseason comedy Great News as an overbearing mother who rejoins the workforce as an intern at a news network to be close with her daughter.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Smithsonian Channel is bringing back its original digital series Wild Inside the National Zoo on August 20. Season 2, comprising six episodes, will focus on animal life at Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC, from kiwi chicks and maned wolves to swamp monkeys and pandas. The second season can be viewed on all of Smithsonian Channel’s digital platforms.

In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Aliens, SundanceTV will air an “Alien Invasion” of all four Alien films from Sunday, September 18-Tuesday, September 20 and is launching Aliens!!! The Contest, exclusively on Tumblr, which invites fans to submit their otherworldly artistic renderings, gifs, paintings and more. The top three finalists will be shown on-air during the movie marathon.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

Canadian rockers the Tragically Hip gets the red carpet treatment on CBC on Saturday, August 20, when the band return to their hometown for the Kingston, Ontario stop of their Man Machine Poem tour and the network broadcasts the performance nationally beginning at 8:30p.

A+E Networks UK will launch new entertainment service Blaze on Freeview in the UK and Ireland on 20 September 20. Blaze will also simultaneously launch as a TV Everywhere service, offering live streaming and catch-up viewing on mobile and devices for iOS and Android. At launch, the service will offer eps of series such as Pawn Stars, Mountain Men and American Restoration.

RATINGS

The just-completed fifth season of WE tv series Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars averaged 1.1 million viewers per episode in Nielsen Live+3 ratings, including 706,000 A25-54 and 532,000 Women 25-54. The season finale on August 12 delivered 1.2 million Total Viewers in Live+3, an increase of 76 percent over Live/Same Day. Season six will return in the fall.

Travel Channel saw a 43 percent increase among viewers A25-54 on Tuesday night, August 16, vs. its year-ago levels. Propelled by the 9p series premiere of Andrew Zimmern’s Driven By Food, which showcased the local sights and flavors of Olympic central, Rio de Janeiro, Travel’s Tuesday prime attracted more than 1.4 million total viewers.

On Wednesday, FOX Business Network’s business day programming reached 150,000 total viewers; FBN’s Varney & Company landed 192,000.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Twentieth Century Fox Television promoted Lindsey Kasabian to VP, casting. Kasabian joined the company nearly 10 years ago as an assistant; today she serves as the studio’s primary casting executive on Showtime‘s Homeland.

Corus Entertainment appointed Athena Georgaklis to the role of head of development for Nelvana. Georgaklis has worked in Canadian broadcast and production for more than 19 years. In her most recent role, she oversaw all original productions for Corus’ Teletoon network.

Roundabout Entertainment appointed Carl Moore as senior producer for feature film services. Moore formerly served as a digital intermediate producer at Modern VideoFilm, where his credits included The Young Messiah, Self/less and Veronica Mars.

Agency KBS appointed Michele Prota as its global chief talent officer. Prior to joining KBS, Prota served as head of talent at The Barbarian Group.

The Firm promoted Priscilla Crowe to VP, Television. Crowe began working with the company in 2009 as an intern and currently serves as co-producer of the upcoming Netflix comedy Haters Back Off.

IN MEMORIAM

CNN reported that Matt Null, a morning show senior producer for the network and former Fox News producer, died while on vacation in Europe. He was 34.

Emmy-nominated re-recording mixer Eric Justen, whose credits include all five seasons of Breaking Bad, has died. Justen also worked in in the film industry; his credits include The Fast and the Furious.

Richard Wilson, CEO Of the UK’s Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, died yesterday following a short illness. He was 58. The CTBF is the leading UK charitable organization for film and TV professionals.

Friday Fun Fact: For the 1900 Olympics, held in Paris, winners were given paintings instead of medals.
