PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

ABC has made a put pilot commitment to Criminal, a drama from Blindspot creator/EP Martin Gero, EPs Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter and co-EP Brendan Gall. The project follows a con man and his ragtag team of criminals, who after falling prey to a CIA sting, must complete a series of missions to clear their names.

CBS Television Studios has struck a development deal with UK-based production company Fulwell 73 to create and develop all forms of television (scripted, alternative and digital) for  broadcast and cable networks, streaming services and other digital platforms.

Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore are attached to star in a potential TV series from David O. Russell (American  Hustle). The project has yet to be pitched to a network or streaming outlet.

Freeform’s Shadowhunters has found its new showrunners. Producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer (Smallville) will replace the departing Ed Decter for Season 2.

TCA TALK

The theme of American Horror Story’s forthcoming season has been revealed, but that doesn’t mean we know what it is. Discussing hush-hush Season 6 at the press tour on Tuesday, FX Networks’ CEO John Landgraf told reporters that his marketing team “went out and created many more trailers than you’ve actually seen for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story, in different genres, different places. One of them is accurate, and the others are all misdirects.”  Premieres Wednesday, September 14 at 10p.

Directors Guild of America statistics for the 2014-15 TV season revealed FX had one of the worst records for hiring female and non-white directors, with only 12 percent of the net’s directors in the category. Landgraf noted that the network has taken great strides in making big changes for the 2016-17 season, which will see 51 percent of the directors hired by FX and FXX being men and women of color or white women.

In January 2017, FX’s flagship animated series Archer will move to FXX, as part of an animation push for the comedy-centric network. “We are really happy with FXX, it’s growing, particularly in the younger end of the spectrum,” noted Landgraf. “As freestanding studio, ADHD shut down, but you will see FXX going really aggressively in animation, and short-form animation.”

The stars will be shining on Thursday, September 15 in NYC… Don’t miss our Rising Star Awards event, which will include an upscale networking reception and a spotlight on all of our winners. You can attend by clicking here.
